Dear Ma m, Request to shorten holiday classes I am Li En, the president of the Student welfare Committee and have gathered feedback from the Secondary Three pupils about their views on the two-week Extended Lessons. I think it is important to hear from the students and know what they would want of the school. My purpose of this letter is to suggest shortening the Extended Lessons vacation. I came to this decision after analyzing the feedback from the students and hope that you will be convinced. The students from secondary 3I believe that the holidays are meant for students to catch up on their studies and thus agree with the implementation of extra lessons. They are concerned for their G.C.E. O level Examinations and wish to make use of the vacation to get a headstart. However, the students from secondary 3R said that two weeks of lessons is too many as they have had many afternoon lessons throughout the year. They requested for more time to study and work part-time to earn some pocket money. This is understandable as students are often interested to have a taste of working in the real world. Lastly, secondary 3D voiced out their concerns that they want to engage in more relaxed social activities like partying and spending time with classmates. This shows that they are concerned for their sense of wellbeing and wish to carve out time for leisurely reading, exploring and reflecting. This is also understandable as the workload during the school term is always suffocating students allowing them no time for social interaction with friends and leisurely activites such as going for a movie or playing computer games. As much as it is of utmost importance to have high academic qualifications, it is also equally important to keep a good sense of well-being among students Taking into consideration all three class s point of views, I have decided that we come to a compromise and keep the extended lessons but shorten
them. I think this is ideal as not only do students get the chance to relax and spend time creating a sense of well-being, they are also preparing academically for the GCE O level examinations and will be both mentally and physically recharged when term re-opens. I hope that you will take into account my reasons for this decision and would agree to shorten the extended lessons. Kindly let me know your decision when you have decided on it.
Yours faithfully, Li En Ang Li En President of the Student welfare Committee
