After gaining knowledge and understanding on your chosen topics, you may proceed in
writing thesis statements. Remember that thesis statement is composed of three elements:
the topic, position/claim, and reasons/points of discussion. Include at least three
reasons/points of discussion. Indicate whether the thesis statement is informative or
persuasive. (40 points each)

Persuasive Thesis Statement Example:

Topic: Legalizing Same-Sex Marriage in the Philippines


Position/Claim: The Philippines should not legalize same-sex marriage in the country.
Reasons: (1) Same-sex marriage would disrupt the original meaning of marriage.
(2) Same-sex marriage hinders the state in protecting the LGBTQ+
community.
(3) Same-sex marriage goes against the idea of the Christianity.

Thesis Statement: Same-sex marriage should not be legalized in the Philippines because it
would disrupt the original meaning of marriage, it would hinder the republic in protecting the
LGBTQ community, and it is also against Christian ideals.

Informative Thesis Statement Example:

Topic: The problem of pollution in major cities


Position/Claim: Pollution in major cities can be alleviated
Discussions: The problem can be alleviated by:
(1) limiting the number of cars allowed to drive in the city
(2) creating more efficient public transportation systems
(3) walk and cycle more

Thesis Statement: The problem of pollution in major cities can be alleviated by limiting the
number of cars allowed to drive on city streets, creating more efficient public transportation
systems, and by promoting walking and cycling.
