Essay Report

An animal shelter, by definition, is a founding, particularly one sustained by generous

donations, that grants a temporary home for dogs, cats, and other animals that are offered
for adoption. A temporary, by definition, is lasting for only a limited period; not permanent.
Put these two mutually, you get temporary homes for the animals. Everyone has very
diverse views about “temporary homes for the animals”. Personally, my beliefs on this are
that most people who proceed to shop for pets are because they wanted to experience it or it
was an impulsive decision; where they just find the animals cute or it was a trend back then.
According to the survey that I collected from 40 Singaporeans youth, 48.6% said that they
will get a pet just because they are bored during the circuit breaker. There isn't a specific
correct or wrong answer to this but based on morals. I believed that people should adopt
based on their interests and commitments, if one just adopts or buys a pet because they are
bored during quarantine, what will happen to the pets once everything is resumed back as
normal? will they still have the same commitment towards their pets? Based on an article
online, the dog dies after being severely neglected during the circuit breaker period. Imagine,
if someone can neglect their pets despite quarantine at home, what more does it say about
people who can't commit to their pets once the pandemic is over? Thus, I believed that
people should adopt based on their interests and commitments.

People that truly wanted a pet and genuinely care for animals, would adopt rather than
purchasing. while I concede there are other views distinct from mine because of the society's
way of surveying this. The society views on this are that folks who buy animals have a wider
form of the various breeds they need, that's one reason the majority shop rather than
adopting. Others will adopt, as they feel that they're giving the animals a second chance at
life. It's calculated that quite a few million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized within the
us annually, only because there are countless pets coming in and too few people
contemplating adoption when searching for a pet. the number of euthanized animals might
be diminished even lower if more people welcomed the concept of adopting pets rather than
purchasing them.

What are the distinct kinds of temporary homes for animals? Firstly, Animal shelters there
are divided into profit and non - profit organizations. Most of the animal shelters only admit
certain species. Every shelter also incorporates a limitation within the animals they accept.
Secondly, Animal sanctuary, they're a profit organization and accept all species. they're just
like the zoo, but rather of trading and buying animals, they protect animals in need and open
their sanctuary to homeless animals. They also release animals back to the wild to preserve
the balance of the world. Lastly, foster home, it's a non-profit organization and a brief home
for the animals. they're only open to certain species. Animal shelters, Animal sanctuary, and
foster homes to be thought to be temporary homes. Animal shelter and foster homes people
can reach out and do adoption, and for an animal sanctuary, they release animals back to
the wild after their rehabilitation or check-up.

Animal shelters play a significant part in animal control policies. they supply animals with the
possibility for a second chance at a home, and most accept both strays and animals
surrendered deliberately by their owners. Notwithstanding the bounties bestowed by their
aids, animal shelters don't seem to be without their critics. Animal rights activists quote
congestion, euthanizing procedures, and staffing as reasons for concern. Thus, there are
pros and cons in temporary homes like animal shelters.

The pros of animal shelters are that they award incentives to form adopting animals easier to
access for all possible owners. While wages vary from shelter to shelter, the animal shelter's
cost to concede adoptions is considerably under the price of supplies needed to deal with
and maintain the animals. Another good thing about adopting an animal at shelters is the
widespread availability of animals. Because a high number of animals are accepted into
shelters, possible owners will likely find the proper pet that suits their decisions. This
becomes a win-win situation. Local animal shelters provide an area to dwell stray animals
that wander aimlessly at the neighborhood unguarded. Sheltering reduces the
circumstances of animal hostility that will oppositely occur if all strays roamed freely while
providing the animals with food and a roof over their heads. to assist abate on the quantity of
outcast strays, animal shelters have strict management on spaying and neutering pets. This
is often a bonus, a reason why people should adopt instead, shelters have aided and
obtained the pets spaying and neutering. This helps further reduce the price of getting a pet.
Most animals surrendered to animal shelters are adults. Adopting a grown-up animal
normally originates with fewer wonderments about the animal's personality and performance,
compared with adopting or buying a replacement puppy or kitten. Many animal shelters
provide extensive behavioral tests on animals before putting them up for adoption and
constantly have stern methods to notify dormant owners about all antagonistic behavior. This
permits the long run pet owner to be comfortable. This extra information will help owners
better understand their pets and lessen their burden when taming them.

Adopting is a two-way street. When shelters retrieve the stray, this benefits the town or
society to be cleaner and aims to be stray free. The animals from shelters that are rescued
payback to society for giving them a second chance and a roof over their heads. They
contribute to a term called "pet therapy". This pet treatment could be a broad term that
features animal-assisted remedy and other animal-assisted activities. The animal-assisted
remedy could be a developing area that works dogs or other animals to support people to
recuperate from or better deal with health difficulties, like a heart condition, cancer, and
psychological state disorders. An example would be EQUAL Singapore. They soak up old
horses, ex-racer, and horses that had old injuries. At EQUAL, they assist their recipients to
boost their social-emotional skills like training impulsivity, increasing self-esteem, and
restoring one's sense of hope and individuality. They are doing this with the guidance of our
equine allies through a program called Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL). The employment of
therapy horses could be bizarre and powerful thanks to cultivating social-emotional growth. It
guides us impulsivity, superintendence, self-awareness, exploration of boundaries,
self-esteem, and self-confidence - healing us in deep ways which might not be as productive
and efficiently done through traditional clinical interference. I've got personally been there
before and skill their 1st hand Equine-Assisted Learning. My brother may be a cancer patient
and that I can see how the horses at Equal helped him plenty. It's amazing how animals
make humans calm and feel at a stronger stage of themself. Thus this is often how animals
in shelters pay back to the society that gave them a second chance in life.
The cons of animal shelter are that the majority of the temporary homes, just like the
shelters, are constantly lacking in manpower. Animal shelters often individually operate, and
their policies changes looking on true of the shelter, as denied to a state or national
standard. Additionally, shelters are staffed fundamentally by volunteers. While these workers
have the identical common concerns in mind for the animals, the necessity for workers
outnumbers the quantity of individuals who are willing to volunteer. In other cases the
quantity of animals outnumbers the workers, thus they needed more people to volunteer.

Everyone thinks animal shelter as a place where animals get to live a second chance. A
place where animals can finally let go of the traumatic experience they had gone through. A
place where they can finally be happy. But little did they know that most animal shelters do
euthanize. The euthanized definition is to kill an animal because it is very old or sick or
because there is no one to take care of it. Some shelters do this because their shelters are
at their full capacity and its congestion, this is sad that animals have no say in their choices.
Based on the Humane Society of America, 150 animal shelters operate within the u. s..
These temporary animal shelters took in approximately six million to eight million pets
annually. Most of the animal shelters are reported to possess overcrowding results from
taking in too many stray animals. Overpopulation in animal shelters can lead animals to
become stressed, the short spread of diseases, and animals being uncomfortable with one
another till they begin fighting. No-kill animal shelters absorb many animals, but at the same
time having a coffee number of adoption makes overcrowding a selected problem. Annually,
shelters euthanize roughly about 3 million to 4 million animals, in keeping with the Humane
Society of the u. s.. The selection to euthanize the animal is the responsibility of the animal
shelters and it must also rely on the animal's situation, well-being, and therefore the shelter's
expense and supplies. Many shelters set an impending time within which strays don't seem
to be qualified for euthanizing, giving their owners an opportunity to rescue them.. Not all
animal shelters euthanize, and those that don't differentiate themselves from the others by
proclaiming themselves as no-kill animal shelters. Unfortunately, some shelters euthanize
illegally because of insufficient space or slots for them and lack of funding. This led to the
next negative factor, funding.

Funding is the foremost solution to the animal shelter like a bigger shelter that comes with
costlier operating costs. Most shelters would start a funding event that helps support the
price for the shelters that are required to regulate and be sure of the animals. Others might
even reach out to companies for a sponsor. Comparing Animal shelters to other temporary
homes, they play an important role within the adoption of homeless pets. Without them,
there would be animals running free in neighborhoods throughout the roots, doing vandalism
to private assets, and maybe injuring people and other pets. Most shelters accept
contributions to help fund their services but others do obtain funding from the govt and other
sources. The number of financing a shelter gets directly hits the quantity of animals that a
shelter can soak up and this led to what number of animals they will adopt out. Currently,
within the year 2020, we've got a world pandemic. This has not just affected everyone but
especially the animal shelter and animal foster homes.
Due to coronavirus disease, also known as COVID 19, Animal shelters and foster homes are
experiencing a high amount of animal intake. As many animals are getting abused and
neglected due to nationwide lockdown, and all these animals are being rescued to animal
shelters. Because of the large amount of intake, most shelters are at their max capacity and
unable to bring in more. They are also lacking financially, as they have to cater to more
animals now. Fortunately, Singapore's government decided to help out with some of their
financial burdens, like decreasing rental fees. At the same time due to the coronavirus,
people are doing impulsive adoption and buying. The reason people are doing this is that
they feel there is a need for them to get a pet as a companion when the world is under
lockdown. Partly was the reason that they felt bored, so they adopted a pet. This will lead to
commitment issues mentioned as above.

Based on further research, I found out that temporary homes do get bits of help from both
internal and external sources. For animal shelters, they are a profit organization so their
profits will eventually help them to cater to the needs of animals. On the side, they also have
external help from the government, like Nparks, and other sponsors that approach them.
Nparks is a government team that is in charge of the animal and nature well being in
Singapore. For a temporary home, they are a non-profitable organization. Their main source
of income is mainly internal which is from their organization group or the foster owner's
pocket. For external help, they will approach companies requesting or propose a reason why
they should sponsor them. As for the animal sanctuary, they are a profitable organization,
they are similar to the zoo. They earn by people visiting their sanctuary. For external, they
are also overwatched by Nparks.

The main question that I'm most inquisitive about while doing all this research is that, is
temporary home Sustainable? Sustainability concentrates on answering the strain of the
current without jeopardizing the efficacy of forthcoming generations to satisfy their
requirements. The concept of sustainability consists of three pillars: economic,
environmental, and society—also known informally as profits, planet, and people. Firstly,
economically, Animal shelters, foster homes for animals, and animal sanctuary play an
enormous role in society. they assist improve living standards and make society a far better
place for everybody. Those that have Zoophobia or animal phobia would feel comfortable
whenever they're out on the streets. Stray's won't be attacking people or vandalizing the
environment. Next, the environment. In keeping with extensive research, shelters
themselves are seldom eco-friendly. When shelters are established, energy efficiency wasn't
a priority, air flow systems were poor and there was a dependence on toxic materials,
particularly for cleaning. Now we are within the 21st century, everything is changing as time
passes. The wonderful news is that the environmentally friendly trend is commencing to take
a green turn, one shelter at a time. This aids to slowly make a change and make a tiny low
contribution step by step for the climate. Ultimately, society. This a street for both society and
also the animals. Government supports the shelters indirectly to assist the animals in need
and cater to them with a brand new home. The animals will then pay back to society by
providing therapy sessions or they're trained to guide the humans who are in need. In an
exceedingly nutshell, yes temporary homes are sustainable. they need the assistance they
have from both internal and external. they're going to go green to fight together with global
climate change and that they are valuable to the people. they need the essential three pillars
all checked, thus temporary homes are Sustainable.

Throughout this report essay, it opens my eyes a lot to the animal world that many people
are oblivious. I tend to keep on discovering new information and some just left me in shock. I
still can't believe that people adopt and buy pets during circuit breakers just to keep themself
companies. Pets are lifetime commitments, they are not temporary friends for the human to
play with. I learned that only adopt if you have the commitment and passion of the animals,
despite having the passion but no commitment can lead to pets getting neglected. I also
learned that they are more organized than just animal shelters. I will advocate for my friends
and family about the importance of adoption. I hope that after reading my essay report
people can become more aware of animals and think twice before adopting.
