Plant Location Records

Introduction There are two different types of Plant Location Records (PLR).
 Geographic Records (geo window)
 Detail Records (detail window)
Remember PLR (Plant Location Record) and "Record" has the same
meaning and is interchangeable.

ATT-TELCO- Additional Plant Location Records information can be found in this APEX
002-202-423
document.

Geographic A Geographic Record has a geo legend associated with it and displays geo
Record
data. Geo data displays poles, aerial and buried cable, conduit, manholes,
and splice boxes (hand hole, sidewalk box, etc.) as well as geographic
elements such as streets, rivers, lakes and both Record and wire center
boundaries. The geo display is controlled by the legend and can be adjusted
using Display Control to turn on and off features (layers), change scale, etc.
Creating or splitting Geo Records can only be performed by a system
administrator (ARAMIS-IT). Refer to the APEX Document.

Viewing PLR By default, the PLR boundaries are not displayed in the map view unless the
Boundaries
user turns them on in Display Control. The PLR boundaries can be found
under Landbase > PLR. By default the Locate Status for boundaries is off.

PLR Labels PLR Labels are not available in ARAMIS. The PLR Map number can be found
by selecting the PLR boundary and reading the number from the Feature
Explorer attribute record.

PLR Geo Scale PLR’s in ARAMIS have different scales as migrated from the ARES system.
The user does not need to know the scale of the Geo record, the placement
routine will determine the scale and place the text correctly.
By default the PLR Locate Status is OFF. If you want to view the
attribute record for a PLR in order to get the PLR number or scale,
you must turn the locate status to ON. Double click on the PLR
boundary to open Feature Explorer and view the PLR number and
scale associated with the PLR Boundary.

Change Map The following properties determine what happens in a map window when
Window
one or more features are selected in another window:
Properties
 View at current scale. Features in the select set are highlighted, but
the map window does not shift or change scale.
 Center at current scale. Features in the select set are highlighted and
centered in the map view, but the map window does not change
scale.
 Fit and zoom out. Features in the select set are fit to the map view,
and the view zooms out according to the percentage you specify. The
default setting is 105%.
 The percentage is a constant factor of the scale at which features in
the select set are fit. So, if an item is fit at 1:5,000, a percentage of
200% doubles the scale to 1:10,000. A percentage of 300% triples the
scale to 1:15,000, and so on.

Find Commands

Introduction The Find commands are used to locate a feature using attribute values. The
Find operation and the search criteria are specified and the result of the
search displays in the map window.
If more than one result matches the search criteria, the located features are
displayed one after the other in the center of the map window using The
Find First, Find Previous, Find Next and Find Last arrows in the data control
of the Find dialog box.
You can find features using the following:
 A Quick Reference Find
 Intersecting Street Segments
The option to update Feature Explorer is provided by checking the Update
feature explorer checkbox. If you check Update feature explorer on the
Find dialog box, Feature Explorer updates to display the relationship and
attribute information for each feature as you scroll through the records
returned by the find query.
If the feature you want to locate is a pending edit, you must first attach the
project with the pending edits for viewing prior to using the Find command.
After you perform a find to locate features, the dialog remembers the last
find method selected and any criteria entered for that method within an
application session. If you exit and re-enter the application, the Find dialog
box displays the initial defaults.
Helpful Hints when using Find Command

 Use CAPS when entering attribute values (turn Caps Lock

on)

 Use the wildcard (%) to allow for broader search (e.g.,

%MAPLE% searches for all instances of Maple including
MAPLE ST., MAPLE DR, N MAPLE, S MAPLE, etc.

 Set an active Area of Interest (AOI), it is required for most

searches.
 Ensure the feature you are locating has its Locate Status
turned ON in the Display Control.

Measure Commands

Introduction There are several ways to measure features in the ARAMIS-DT system.
Existing landbase and facilities in ARAMIS were migrated from
! other systems or converted from paper records which did not
adhere to strict scaling requirements. Do not expect a
measured length to match the cable footage (as an example).
Measuring should be used as a guideline for length or distance
only.

Measure You can measure the length of linear geometries or the perimeter of area
Length
geometries using the Length Measurement toolbar. You choose whether to
measure a selected element, to measure along the length of an element, or
