Future Trends: Wearable Technology

The document discusses future trends expected in 10 years based on current generational behaviors and technology usage. It predicts that wearable devices will become more prevalent as the current generation is highly engaged with technology. Wearables can take many forms from jewelry to medical devices and can monitor health, location, and messages. While wearables provide convenience and real-time feedback, they also have drawbacks like short battery life, inaccurate measurements, and the need to regularly charge some devices. Overall, the pros and cons of wearables should be considered before adopting the technology.

ELMS 05 Quiz 1

Question:
Based on your perception of the current society and the behaviour
of the current generation, what future trends do you expect to see
in 10 years?
- As I am growing up, I can see that the current generation or our generation are
into the technology, so in my opinion I think the future trends that I expected is
the wearable devices. According to Ivy Wigmore a content editor, a wearable
technology or devices is any kind of electronic device designed to be worn on the
user’s body. Such devices can take many different forms, including jewellery,
accessories, medical devices, and clothing (or elements of clothing). The term
wearable computing implies processing or communications capabilities, but, the
sophistication among wearables can vary. The most sophisticated examples of
wearable technology include AI hearing aids, Google Glass and Microsoft’s
HoloLens, and a holographic computer in the form of a VR headset. An example
of a less complex form of wearable technology is a disposable skin patch with
sensors that transmit patient data wirelessly to a nearby control device.
- Wikipedia also said that wearable technology, wearables, fashion technology,
smart wear, tech togs, streetwear tech, skin electronics or fashion electronics are
smart electronic devices (electronic device with micro-controllers) that are worn
close to and/or on the surface of the skin, where they detect, analyse, and
transmit information concerning e.g. body signals such as vital signs, and/or
ambient data and which allow in some cases immediate biofeedback to the
wearer.
- The pros and cons of the wearable technology according to

 PROS
Wearable technology provides us with the ability to monitor our fitness levels,
track our location with GPS, and view text messages more quickly. Best of all,
most of the devices that allow us to do this are hands free and portable,
eliminating the need to take our devices out of our pockets.
Before wearables, it was possible to obtain a lot of the information listed above, but it
was sometimes a hassle and required devices that weren't always convenient.
Wearables are connected to our smart devices, transmitting this information to them,

and allowing us to view it at later times, as well as in the moment. This can help you
with setting goals and tracking your progress toward them.
 CONS
Wearables tend to have a short battery life. Some devices, like the simpler
Fitbit trackers, can last for several days. But some of the more advanced
wearables, like the Apple Watch, will only last for a day or so. For some, it can
be a hassle to remember to regularly remove your wearable to charge it.
Because of this, several developers are looking into the possibility of wireless
charging options that would eliminate the need to remove the device.
Some wearables have been reported to measure data inaccurately on
occasion. This can be especially dangerous when measuring data like heart
rates. For individuals with heart conditions, this false reading could lead to
overexertion and further health issues.
Ultimately, it's up to you to decide whether a wearable device is something
from which you would benefit. With their increase in popularity, it's important
to weigh the pros and cons before committing to one.
