Introduction
The Reserve Officers' Training Corps, commonly referred to as
ROTC, A test to prepare students for responsible future leadership roles or to
participate for a short time in the program without a post-college commitment. This
program is constantly mandated in colleges and universities in many different
countries. This is a clear relationship between academic success and character
development, and the Academy’s focus on both of these aspects of education give
cadets an advantage that can’t be found at other schools. Reserve Officer’s Training
Corps (ROTC) program develops students who are prepared for life in college and
beyond, to have full potential as young men of good character and respected
leaders in their communities.
This program is one of the best way to have an good character training courses for
students as it essentially teaches practical life skills and develops discipline, builds
character, and hones the potential of every cadet. This endeavor is giving an
opportunity for the students to become leaders of the country in the future. There is a

that can’t be found at other schools. Our ROTC program develops students who are
prepared for life in college and beyond, to become respected leaders in their
communities.
The Reserve Officers' Training Corps, commonly referred to as
ROTC, offers students a chance to study and serve after they complete
their degree, or to participate for a short time in the program without a post college
commitment. This program is constantly mandated in colleges and universities in
many different countries. In America, the program is
offered at more than 1,700 colleges and universities to prepare young
adults to become officers in the U.S. after graduation. The program is
guaranteed post-college career, participants, or cadets, commit to serve in
the Military, Navy, Marine and even in the Air Force (todaysmilitary.com).
In Korea, the Reserve Officers' Training Corps is also a college- based
officer training program which was established in 1961. This applies to
males aged between 18 and 35, although women are allowed to enroll in
the ROTC as of 2010. Applicants to the ROTC program go through a
screening process and once accepted, they undergo physical and military
education throughout a semester. These students serve for two and a
half years and may even choose to extend his or her service in pursuit of

to school without proper discipline and their behaviors are very aggressive ROTC
has a great effect to improve and develop their character to become useful to our
country and community , as a criminology student we need to build our values and
have a good character for the future to prepare them to needs as a student of
criminlogy
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The study will conduct at the school of Divine Mercy College foundation Inc.
Located at 129 University Avenue, Caloocan City. The Divine Mercy College
Foundation Inc. which is led by the president Martin B. Martinez M.D., Divine Mercy
College Foundation Inc. has many course offerred from pre-school to college and
vocational courses but our study is focuses on criminology freshmen student that taking
ROTC. Last june 2022 Divine Mercy College Foundation, Inc. Criminology graduates
took the Criminologist Licensure Exam, with a result of 44.44% passing rate higher than
30.30% National Passing rate.
Divine Mercy College Foundation, Inc., believe that education is a gift and a right that
should be granted to everyone, no matter their social strata, in our country today.
Through quality education and spiritual formation, a student can rise up and achieve
success in life, not just in academics but also in terms of self-reliance and complete
preparation for productive work. Over the years
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
This research study was anchored on the Reserve Officers Training Corp’s and
varieties of Character Development. This is identifying the three Character Development
such as motivations, organizational work, community cooperation.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The Settings
The study will be conducted at Divine Mercy College Foundation Inc. 129
University Avenue, Caloocan City.
The Subject content
The study will be focused on the RESERVE OFFICERS TRAINING
CORPS (ROTC) IN RELATION TO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AMONG
CRIMINOLOGY STUDENTS IN DIVINE MERCY COLLEGE FOUNDATION INC.
The Respondents
The study will be composed of three (3) groups of respondents. The first
group is composed of ROTC Instructor, the second group is the Freshmen
College, and the last group is Former Cadets or officers of ROTC The Time
Frame
The study will be covered the Academic Year 2022-2023.
Significance of the Study
The result of the study may serve as significant to the following groups:
To the Incoming freshmen college, this study would help them become well-
informed about the CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AMONG CRIMINOLOGY
STUDENTS, hence improving the program they are implementing with the end-goal of a

Divine Mercy College Foundation Inc.
To the Criminology Students, the end – product of this research will help the
aspiring criminologist to discover the capabilities of on how they are going to apply the
CH in the county.
To the Professors of Criminology, to analyze and understand the end –
product of this research and help them to get an idea on how the RESERVE OFFICERS
TRAINING affect our country in CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AMONG STUDENTS
WHO UNDERGO ROTC PROGRAM.
To the Community, the end – product of this research will make them
knowledgeable about the kind of policing style that the police officer implemented on
them and how it affected their community.
To the Future Researchers, they can use this thesis as their reference and to
help them get an idea on how to make a study about the different policing style. Thus,
this will serve as their future reference in making another research with the same line of
theme or subject.
Definition of terms
For purpose of clarity, the researchers used some terms in the study in which are
deemed important in the analysis to be made as they are conceptually and operationally
defined as follows:
Barangay - Shall refer to the smallest administrative division in the Philippines
and the native Filipino term for a village district or ward, formerly called as “Barrio”.
Community - It refers to the civilian populace in cities, municipalities or public in
general and shall be used interchangeably with public, citizenry or private sector.
Community Cooperation - Shall refers to the collaborative atlas-making context
involves sharing knowledge and perspectives across disciplines and between cultures.
Crime Prevention - Shall refer to the way to reduce and deter crime and
criminals. It is applied specifically to efforts made by governments to reduce crime,
enforce the law, and maintain criminal justice.
Crime Suppression - Shall refer to the trying to suppress or stop the activity of
crime using the police force and as in this study using the police patrol.
Juvenile - A person below the age of majority.
Organizational Work - Thus refers to how work is planned, organized and
managed within companies and to choices on a range of aspects such as work
processes, job design, responsibilities, task allocation, work scheduling, work pace,
rules and procedures, and decision-making processes.
Patrol Activities - Refers the activity of going around or through an area at
regular intervals for security purposes.
Police Community Relation – Shall refers to the relationship of the police to the
community should be wide. The community relies upon the police department to
“protect and serve” and the police, in return, rely upon community support and
cooperation in order to be effective. When communication and trust deteriorate,
tensions build between the community and police and undermine their shared goal of
safer communities.
Policing Style - Shall refer to the control, regulation or keeping of order in the
community by means of enforcement of laws, providing police service and maintenance
of peace.
