REFLECTION FOR THE BOOKS OF

JOSHUA, JUDGES, AND RUTH

The book of Joshua demonstrates God's fidelity to his promise to

Abraham to lead the Israelites into the land he promised, it emphasizes
the significance of covenant obedience before, during, and after God
keeps his promises. The book of Judges exposes the corruption and
downward spiral of Israel's judges, but this horrific past nevertheless
provides hope for the future. Israel abandons God and the land
becomes entirely polluted. The book of Judges depicts Israel's
catastrophic downfall. According to the Book of Ruth, Ruth and Orpah,
two Moabite women, married two sons of Elimelech and Naomi,
Judeans who had settled in Moab to escape a famine in Judah. All three
women's husbands die; Naomi intends to return to Bethlehem and
advises her daughters-in-law to do the same.
