Mariano, Case Study-Waze

Waze is a free navigation app that uses real-time traffic and road information provided by its users. It was founded in Israel in 2008 and was later acquired by Google. Waze collects anonymous location and driving data to provide updated maps, traffic conditions, and navigation routes. The more people use the app while driving, the more accurate the navigation data becomes as it incorporates crowdsourced information. Waze relies on an internet connection to access maps, locate the user, and share real-time updates, so navigation is not possible without data access.

Case Study - WAZE

Satellite navigation software for use on mobile devices and other devices that support the

Global Positioning System is offered by Waze, a part of Google that was formerly known as

FreeMap Israel (GPS). User-submitted trip times and route information are coupled with turn-by-

turn navigation, and location-specific information is retrieved via a cellular network. Waze

advertises its app as a free to use and download project run by the community. Israeli

entrepreneurs Ehud Shabtai, Amir Shinar, and Uri Levine established the software's developer,

Waze Mobile, in Israel. Two Israeli venture capital firms, Magma and Vertex Ventures Israel, as

well as an early-stage American venture capital firm, Bluerun Ventures, contributed funds to the

first attempt. Google purchased Waze Mobile in June 2013.

The simplest way to improve Waze is to simply drive around with it open while it's on

your screen. Even if you aren't using Waze for navigation, open it. You don't have to do

anything. Waze uses the information it collects to calculate the average speed, look for errors,
improve the layout of the route, and comprehend turn and road directions. Waze does away with

the necessity for special trips. Waze actually works best when you commute and travel regularly.

The maps and navigation are powered by user input. The more people use Waze while driving,

the more accurate the navigation becomes.

Waze is used and supported by drivers from all over the world. Drivers talk to one

another and help one another out to improve their driving experiences. Waze is a community-

based traffic and navigation program that was created as a social navigation tool for private

vehicles. As a result, we are not yet in favor of using the lanes designated for bicycles, trucks, or

public transportation.
Waze was developed under the presumption that a data network connection would always

exist, or at the very least, be frequent. Waze can only be used on mobile devices with an active

data connection for all of its features. Through this relationship, Waze has access to real-time

traffic-related data, which also ensures a current map. Without internet access, it will be

impossible to locate or navigate a route.
