Detailed Lesson Plan in Math FOR GRADE 5
USING INDUCTIVE METHOD
I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:
1. visualize and describe solid figures
2.Understand the similarities and differences among the different solid figures; and
3. Name solid figures in the environment.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Solid Figures
Reference: Module 11 in Mathematics 5 Third Quarter pp.4-11
Instructional Materials: book, pictures, visual aids, flash card, chalk and eraser
III. Procedures
Teacher's Activity Learners' Activity
A.Preliminary Activities Write letter P if it is a plane figure and an S if it is a solid figure
1. Drill: Check the dimensions
• identify the following figures or objects whether they are
plane figures or solid figures.
(Expected answer of pupils)
1.P 6.S
2.S 7.S
3.S 8.P
4.P 9.S
5.S 10.P
(Expectd answer of pupils)
2.Review: 2 Dimensional Shapes
•identify the different plane figures shown. 1.Pentagon
2.Square
3.Rectangle
4.Hexagon
5.Circle
• Two dimensional shapes or 2D shapes defined as a flat plane
• How can you defined a 2D shapes? figures and it has only two dimensions length and width.
(Expected answer of pupils)
B.Lesson Proper Activities:New lesson
1.Motivation • Lemon, battery, pencil, ice cream, book, water melon, bottle
water, dice, soda can.
• What can you see in the picture?
(The student read orally)
• The Lim Family is having a birthday party in their vacation
house in Tagaytay. Rico, the eldest son, bought a new soccer
ball. His younger sister, Ashley, got a box of chocolate. Mrs.
Dancey Lim bought 15 pieces of birthday hats while Mr.Fred
Lim bought different groceries like cans of milk and toblerone.
(Expected Responses of pupils)
• There are five solid figures brought by the Lim Family and
those are
Soccer ball, box of chocolate, party hats, cans of milk and
Toblerone.
Collum A. Collum B.
(Expected answers of pupils)
1.We see a ball, a box and a book.
2.Objects such as balls, boxes and books are called solid
figures.
3. Solid figures are three-dimensional figures.
4. A three-dimensional object has length, width, and
height.
5.They may also have faces, edges and vertices.
1.The faces is the flat surfaces of the box.
2.An edges is where the two faces of the box meet.
• kindly read the shorts story on the board./visual aid.
3.The vertices or vertex of the box is a point where edges
meet.
2.Motive Question
• How many different solid figures can be identified from the
items brought by the Lim Family?and What are those?
(Expected answer of pupils)
3.Unlocking of the difficulties
1. A solid is a polyhedron if all its faces are polygons, also a
• Match the picture in column A with the words in column B
polyhedron may be a prism, a pyramid or a platonic solid.
•Key to correction
2.It is a solid figure with two parallel and congruent bases.
1. Sphere 4.Cube
3.has only one base, which can be any polygon.
2.Cylinder 5.Rectangular Phyramid
3.Cone
(The students read orally the examples on the board)
C.Presentation of the New Lesson
1.Triangular prism, square prism , rectangular prism,
pentagonal prism, hexagonal prism and octagonal prism.
• Our new lesson for today is all about solid figure or 3
dimensional figures
* Using Concrete Objects
Example A:Using real objects such as ball, box, book
1).What can you see on the table?
2.Triangular pyramid, square pyramid, rectangular pyramid,
pentagonal pyramid and octagonal pyramid.
2).What do you call in this objects?
3).What are solid figures?
4).What are the characteristics of a three-dimensional
figures?
5).What else?
(Expected answer of pupils)
Example B: Using a box
1).where can you find the faces of this box?
2)Where can you find the edges of the box?
3).What about the vertices or vertex?where can you find
them?
* Using Semi-concrete objects(or picture)
Chart A:Using a picture of solid figures.
(Expected answers of pupils)
They draw
1).How can you describe a solid polyhedron ? 1.box
2).What are the characteristics of a prism? 2.shoe box
3).What are the characteristics of a pyramids? 3.toblerone chocolate

5. 5 8 5
Illustration 2: Draw an examples of the following figures.
1). Cube (Pupils formulated the Generalization)Rule
2).Rectangular prism
3).triangular pyramid Vertex refers to point of a solid figure where edges meet.
Face is the flat surface of the solid figure.
* Enrichment Activity#1 Solid figures are three- dimensional figures.
• Exercises#1: Match the objects with similar shape. Edge is formed when two faces of the solid figure meet.
Collum A. Collum B. Pyramid is a polyhedron with only one vertex.
• Check up test
• Exercises#2: List down at least five solid figures that can be
found in the classroom.
* Enrichment Activity#2
Fill in the table with the correct information
* Stament of Generalization( Rule)
Defined the following words
1.Vertex
