Aesop's Fables

This document contains summaries of two Aesop's fables. [1] The first fable is about a thirsty crow who is unable to reach water in a pitcher. Through intelligence and problem-solving, the crow drops stones into the pitcher to raise the water level until it can drink. The moral is that necessity is the mother of invention. [2] The second fable describes dogs tearing apart the skin of a dead lion. A fox observes and warns that if the lion were alive, the dogs would regret their actions. The moral is not to see yourself as higher or better than others.

Aesop’s Fables

Fable 1:

a. This story is a fable because it consists of the features of a fable, it is a short story,
has animals behavior human-like, and has a moral lesson. This fable talks about a
crow, and it is known for its intelligence, wit, and curiosity.
b. The plot of the story follows a crow which is thirsty, and near death. He tried to reach
the pitcher but could not, he collected some peddles and dropped into the pitcher. In
the end, the water reached him. this plot is so understandable, and has exposition,
rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. The only character in this fable is
the crow, he is smart, intelligent, and witty, he solved the problem on his own. he has
a lot of traits. For example; he is intelligent enough to solve the problem he was
facing “ he collected as many stones as he could carry, and dropped them one by
one… until he brought the water within his reach..” The setting is not clear, it might
be in a garden or a farm, but it does not matter, because the focus on the story is not
the place of the pitcher but the pitcher itself. The symbol of the crow is mischief, evil,
and death. But it is also symbol of wit, wisdom, and intelligence. In addition, the
symbol of a pitcher is royalty and celebration, in old Egypt, the servants used it to
serve their king a drink and to celebrate.
c. The moral and the theme of this fable is “the neediness is the mother of invention” the
crow found a way to survive death, it is a good fable to teach its readers the important
of thinking outside the box.

Fable 2:

a. This story is a fable because it consists of the features of a fable, it is a short story,
has animals behavior human-like, and has a moral lesson. This fable talks about a
crow, and it is known for its intelligence, wit, and curiosity.
b. The plot of the dogs and the fox started with some dogs, they tear a skin of a lion to
eat it, a fox looking at them while say that if that lion was a live you going to regret
your deed. The setting of the story is not clear because it is not important to the story,
but I think it is in the den of the lion because he might died there and his corpse was
be there, or maybe the dogs carried the skin to another place. The Characters of this
fable are the dogs and a fox. First is the fox which was watching the dogs eating, he
was annoyed when he said “ if the lion were alive, you would soon find out …” he
seemed anger about the dogs, maybe he worked for the lion, because there are a lot of
fables talk about a lion and a fox. Secondly, the dogs, they found a skin of a lion and
quickly tearing it in pieces, they seemed hungry. Considering the saying of the fox, it
seemed that these dogs thought of themselves as strong as the lion and more than him.
the symbol of the fox is smartness, calmness, and more importantly wit. In contrast,
the dogs are more quick and hasty and dumb.
c. The moral and the theme is “ don’t see yourself higher and better than other” the fox
knew that the dogs saw themselves more stronger than the died lion, it really shows
the importance of being humble.
