Physical Fitness
It is the body’s ability to function effectively and
efficiently without undue fatigue in work, leisure
activities, to meet emergency situations and to resist
diseases from sedentary lifestyle.

It is the amount of time left after all daily routine
activities are accomplished.

These are unforeseen events where one has to use
his energy to meet unexpected circumstances.

d. Abstraction/Discussion

First Aid – is an immediate and temporary care
given to a person who has been injured or suddenly
taken ill. It includes self-help and home care if
medical assistance is not available or delayed.

Objectives of First Aid


 To alleviate suffering
 To prevent added/further injury or danger

Class kindly read the common injury encountered


by
Officiating Officials and Athletes.  Cramps – Muscle cramps are sudden,
involuntary contractions that occur in various
First Aid for Cramps muscles. 
 Use a warm towel or heating pad on tense or
tight muscles.
 Taking a warm bath or directing the stream of a
hot shower onto the cramped muscle also can
help.
 Alternatively, massaging the cramped muscle
with ice may relieve pain.

 Sprains – a sprain is caused by torn fibers in a


ligament. Swelling and bruising are some signs
First Aid for Sprains and symptoms.
 Remove any clothing or jewelry around the
joint.
 Apply cold compress at once.
 Elevate the affected joint.
 The victim’s physician may recommend an over
the counter anti-inflammatory medication
(aspirin, ibuprofen) appropriate for the victim’s
general health.  Heat Exhaustion – is a response to heat
characterized by fatigue, weakness and collapse
due to inadequate intake of water to compensate
for loss of fluids during sweating.
First Aid for Heat Exhaustion
 Have the victim lie down with his/her feet
elevated.
 Keep the victim cool.
 Give him/her electrolyte beverages to sip or
make a salted drink.
 Monitor the victim for signs of shock.
 If the victim starts having seizures, protect
him/her from injury and give first aid form
convulsions.
 If the victim loses consciousness, give first aid
for unconsciousness.
