Lesson Plan

This lesson plan aims to teach 10th grade English students about different types of poetry and how to identify the overall meaning or message of poems. Students will read various poems in class and identify their types and themes. They will then be split into groups to analyze an assigned poem and determine its type, meaning, and key details. Finally, students will submit a short summary of their group's analysis, and their work will be assessed based on demonstrated critical thinking skills, lack of errors, and correctly identifying the poem's type. The goal is for students to learn how to pull the general theme from poems that may not make their meaning obvious.
