CHAPTER 1

Background of the Study

“Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the
absence of disease and infirmity” defined by the WHO (World Health Organization). It is one of
the most important aspect of our lives, “Health is Wealth” just like most people says, so we
people should care for it just like our lives depends on it. It can be done by doing exercise,
having enough time of rest or sleep and of course by watching our diet.

Well in today’s era, we people are always busy. So in terms of picking what food to eat, we
always stick to the instant meals, and one of those is instant noodles. Cause why not after all, it
can satisfy our hunger, cheap, easy to prepare and very convenient. It’s even widely popular
packed when were: travelling or as a go to meals when disaster struck and also one of the
common goods we received as relief goods from the government.

Moreover, this research is envisioned to shed light regarding on what does instant noodles does
to our bodies.

Statement of the Problem

This research is conducted in order for us to know the effects of consuming instant noodles
most especially to junior high school students.

We researchers also aims to answer the following questions regarding on the effects of
consuming instant noodles:

1. What are the good effects of instant noodles?

2. What are the bad effects of instant noodles?


Significance of the Study

Since health is one of the most important aspect in life, so taking care of it is an absolute must.
And one of the ways we can do so, is by watching our diet or the things we eat. Since that in
today’s era we usually stick to the convenient foods, or foods that most of the time is cheap, easy
to prepare and can fulfill our hunger. Instant noodles being one of them, has recently been raising
health concerns throughout the years.

So with the help of this research and the gathered information, we were going to be able to
manage our consumption of instant noodles properly in moderation, where we can still enjoy it
without the worries and guilt of catching a disease and feeling sick. Making a huge impact and
change on our lifestyle and diet that can result in much better health condition and longer life.
With this we can avoid diseases related in high sodium and calorie content, having said that
instant foods and specifically instant noodles is also observed to have high sodium and calorie
content.

Having said, we believe that with this research and the information it’s going to provide, is can
be use and serve as a guide in safety of eating instant noodles.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The research conducted is aiming to know and learn the effects of consuming instant noodles to
our bodies, most especially to the targeted audience, the junior high school students, which are
one of the top consumer of instant noodles. Being said the research and its survey has been
conducted and answered with the help of the junior high school students of the section 9-SSC of
Academia de Pulilan.

The research conducted, only used questionnaires, information from the internet and other
related literatures in the making of the research proposal. And the survey being said is only
limited to the population of the junior high school department of Academia de Pulilan. Having
the section of 9-SSC participating on the survey being said.
CHAPTER 2

Method

This chapter describes how the study was undertaken. It discusses the main topics to be covered
in this chapter namely the research design, the number of participants, the instrument used, the
procedure in gathering data, and the analysis of the data gathered.

Research Design

We researchers focused on the effects of instant noodles to the human body. The descriptive
method was used and junior high school students were selected as the respondents for the survey.
This was to determine the effect of instant noodles to the human body.

Participants

The study focused and used the junior high school students. For the reason that one of the top
consumers of instant noodles in the world right now are mostly students and young adults, who
frequently consume it because of its convenience and satisfaction it provides at the same time.
We’re lucky for having the students of the section 9-SSC of Academia de Pulilan, taking part on
the research being conducted. There are 18 students as a total number of respondents. Being 7
boys and 11 girls in total.

Instrument

We researchers used a questionnaire for gathering data around the target population of
audiences, because it is simple wherein items can be easily constructed. Questionnaire like this is
also capable of being distributed easily for much easier data gathering, which would be helpful
for the study being conducted. The questionnaire has been distributed in face-to-face manner.
And the data gathered is easy to tabulate and the identity of the participants are kept confidential
for privacy reasons. The items were constructed in comprehensive and in direct manner to avoid
confusion. The respondents were asked to answer and give their own thoughts on the
questionnaire, by circling on the option which would correspond to their most appropriate
answer.
The questionnaire is composed of 8 questions only. The question type varies from; 3 multiple
choice, 4 yes or no, and 1 rating scale. The rating scale is being used to describe the satisfaction
of the respondents towards the instant noodles. And can be interpreted as:

Data Gathering Procedures

Since the study only focuses on junior high school students and conducted only in one
institution, the data gathering went pretty quick and easy. Since there’s no legal procedures
needed.
The researchers only asked the subject teacher Mrs. Maribeth S. Alejo on what grade and
section to survey. Then the researchers proceed to ask consent on the respective grade and
section selected, to distribute the survey. After the approval we proceed to distribute the survey
in face-to-face manner. Then after the survey, the questionnaire is retrieved and started to be
processed and used for analysis and interpretation.

Data Analysis

Upon getting all the data, it is immediately processed to determine the average answers of the
respondents regarding to the effects of instant noodles to junior high school students. The
multiple choices and the yes or no type of questions are computed in such way:

While the rating scale type of question, is computed by the mean to find the average rating
scale given by the responders.
