Principles of Training
Specificity-Our training must be specific
to the sport
Overload-To improve fitness we must
overload our body systems. This means
making them work harder than normal.
Overload Our bodies will adapt to this
extra work and so we will become fitter.
Overload uses the FITT principles.
Reversibility-Use it or lose it! Basically, if
you stop training then the improvements
you have made will be reversed.
Tedium-Tedium, or boredom, should be
avoided in all training programs to
maintain enthusiasm and interest.
Progression-As we increase the amount
of training we do we must it gradually
more difficult to prevent injury.
Individualization-This is a crucial
principle, the fundamental fact that
everyone is different! Everyone responds
to training in a different way
