This document contains the results of a glucose tolerance test performed on a 31-year-old pregnant female. The test measured glucose levels fasting and 1 and 2 hours after consuming 75 grams of glucose. The fasting glucose level was 82 mg/dL and the 1 hour post-dose level was 161 mg/dL, above the threshold for diagnosis. The 2 hour post-dose level was 93 mg/dL, below the threshold. Explanation:
1. Threshholds for diagnosis of Gestational Diabetes as per NICE (National Institute for Health & Care Excellence), UK 2015 Guideline-Diabetes in
pregnancy: management from preconception to the postnatal period.
2. Women are diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus if they have either of raised Glucose Fasting or raised Glucose 2 Hr. Post dose level.
3. Following are risk factors for Gestational Diabetes Mellitus: BMI above 30 kg/m2, previous macrosomic baby weighing 4.5 kg or more, previous
gestational diabetes, family history of diabetes (first-degree relative with diabetes) and ethnicity with a high prevalence of diabetes.
Please note:- Test (s) are performed on state of the art Cobas 6000, fully automated Modular System, from Roche Diagnostics, Switzerland.
