What is Computer Hardware?
⚫ Computer hardware is the collection of
  physical parts of a computer system.
⚫ This includes the computer case, monitor,
  keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner, etc .
⚫ It also includes all the parts inside the
  computer case, such as the hard disk
  drive, motherboard, video card, and many
  others.
⚫ Computer hardware is what you can
  physically touch.
               Peripheral devices
⚫   Device that is connected to a computer
    but is not part of the core computer
    architecture.
⚫   connects to a computer system to add
    functionality. Examples are a mouse,
    keyboard, monitor and printer.
⚫   Peripheral devices can be external or
    internal and can provide either an input
    or an output.
                    Keyboard
⚫   It is an input device.
⚫   Used to enter text , similar to typewriter.
⚫   Typical keyboard have 104 keys.
⚫   Keyboard is divided into:
     Numeric keys: 0 to 9,+,-,/,%
     Character/alphanumeric keys: a-z, A-Z. 0-9
     Punctuation: : ; ? ‘ “
     Function keys: F1 to F12
     Special purpose keys: del, page up, page
     down, end, home, insert, ctrl, alt, etc.
     Cursor movement keys: arrow keys (up,
     down, right, left)
            Types of Keyboard
Multimedia Keyboard:
⚫ Design to make it one-touch simple for
  the user to access often used programs.
⚫ Contain keys to perform: volume control,
  internet    explorer,   changing    songs,
  opening email, back, forward, refresh etc.
⚫ Special type of keyboard called gaming
  keyboard is used for playing games.
⚫ Can have PS/2 port, USB port or can be
  wireless.
Ergonomic Keyboard:
⚫   This keyboard is mainly designed for users who
    use both hands for typing.
⚫   The advantage of this keyboard is less muscle
    strain, when you have to work for long time.
⚫   This makes you rest your hands in a more
    comfortable, natural position as you type.
⚫   This keyboard is expensive.
Wireless Keyboard:
⚫ Costlier than wired keyboards.
⚫ Do not have any wire attached to
  them.
⚫ Interact with computer through
  Bluetooth or infrared rays.
⚫ Operates on battery power.
⚫ Offers more mobility, can operate
  sitting anywhere within the range.
Mechanical keyboard:
⚫ It is the traditional keyboard.
⚫ It makes noise when each key is pressed.
⚫ Have longer life span than other
  keyboards.
⚫ Allow removal and replacement of
  keycaps.
