-Faie-
Like many other knitters, I learned the basics of the craft from my mother. My grandmother was also instrumental in
instilling in me a love for all things related to making and creating. I was given free rein to dig through her crafting
supplies and boxes full of beads and buttons and yarns and threads and notions. The word Faie is a derivative of my
mother’s middle name and in Old English and French signi es a woman skilled in magic who knows and
understands the power of words. I can’t think of a better way to honor the woman who started me on this knitting
journey than to name this sweater for her and for all of the magical ones out there who know how to use the power
of their words and their craft.
The Faie Sweater features lace panels on both the front and back sides, as well as beautifully textured and billowy
bishop sleeves. Knitted in the round from the bottom up, this tted design offers a romantic silhouette. The front and
back are split at the armholes, and the remainder of the bodice is knitted at in two pieces. A three-needle bind-off is
used to re-join the shoulders before stitches are picked up at the armholes to knit the sleeves. Finally, stitches are knit
together at the wrist to create the ribbed cuff, and a decorative seed stitch border is added to the neckline.

NOTES
• This piece is knitted in the round from the bottom up. The front and back are split into two pieces
once you reach the armholes, and the two pieces are then knitted at. The front and back are
then joined at the shoulder using a three-needle bind-off. Instructions for this technique are
included in the Finishing Section. Stitches are picked up around the armholes, and the sleeves
are knitted in the round before switching to a smaller needle size for the cuffs. Finally, stitches are
picked up around the neckline, and a border is used to nish off the piece. Charts for the lace
sections are included at the end of the pattern.
• This sweater has a wide bateau neckline. If you have narrow or sloping shoulders, you may wish
to knit additional rounds of the neckline border to narrow the neckline a bit more.
• Watch a video of this sweater here.
