CYLINDER BLOCK CONSTRUCTION
1. It is the basic framework of the engine
2.
The cylinder block is basically a casting product.
3.
The cylinder block is machined and honed to a very accurate finish for good lubrication and ring seating.
4.
The cylinder walls are finished to 1 micron finish with a fine rotating hone.
5.
An intersecting visible cross-hatch pattern is produced by the hone form.

ENGINE VALVES & SPRING There are three types of engine valves. Used to admit the air fuel mixture in cylinder and force the exhaust gas out.

Silicon-chrome steel containing 0.4% carbon, 0.5% manganese, 0.5% nickel and 8% chromium is used for inlet valve material, whereas for
exhaust valve nimonic alloy is used consists of 0.05% carbon, 1% manganese, 0.6% silicon, 20% chromium, 2% cobalt, 2.5%titanium, 1.2%aluminium 5%iron and remaining nickel. Helical spring with ground and flat end. These are generally made from high grade spring steel wire. Materials are generally hard-drawn carbon steel or chrome vanadium steel

CYLINDER HEAD CONSTRUCTION
1. Cylinder head is cast using cast iron and aluminum alloy.
2. Aluminum alloy is used for weight reduction and greater thermal conductivity.
3. Aluminium alloy containing 3% copper, 5% silicon, 0.5% manganese in matrix of aluminium.
SUMP IS MADE OF PRESSED STEEL OR ALUMINIUM ALLOY

GASKETS
1.
Gaskets are used to provide the tight fitting joint between two surfaces.
2.
Used between cylinder head and block, crankcase and oil pan, between cylinder block and manifold or water pump.
3.
Cork, asbestos and rubber are used as cork material.
