SUMMER TRAINING REPORT
BY:imad safeen
Introduction
The purpose of this report is to document the significant of summer
training provided by HKN company, in approaching this challenging task
One is first face with the temptation
Introduction and orientation
In the first day we were introduced to the company and the the
company employees ,we were given a brief presentation to the
company and the origin of the company ,founded in 2007 by ross
perot.,JR HKN energy is a privately held independent energy company
with oil exploration and production operation in the Kurdistan region of
Iraq
HSE department overview (health. Safety .and environment)
Is a set of processes and producers identifying potential hazard to a
certain environment developing best practices to reduce or remove
those hazards and then training employees for accident prevention
accident response etc.
SECURITY DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
HKN has many special measures on the security for transferring many foreign
employee who work in the company and also the cars under supervision of the
plan and traffic system if the president of the company visits Kurdistan will be
protected by protocol of the regional government
CSR department overview
Corporate social responsibility in the oil and gas sector the oil and gas industry is a
leading sector of business that has to continuously engage in corporate social
responsibility
Subsurface geology department overview
Subsurface geology is the study of the physical properties and location of rock and
soil found below the ground surface. One of the most valuable reasons for
learning about the subsurface is understanding the materials below man-made
structures. These studies are commonly called geotechnical reports and are
critical for building structures safely in areas with geologic hazards.
Production department overview
Production department overview
Production is the process of extracting the hydrocarbons and separating the
mixture of liquid hydrocarbons, gas, water, and solids, removing the constituents
that are non-saleable, and selling the liquid hydrocarbons and gas. Production
sites often handle crude oil from more than one well.
Drilling department overview
An oil well is a boring in the Earth that is designed to bring petroleum oil
hydrocarbons to the surface. Usually some natural gas is released as associated
petroleum gas along with the oil. A well that is designed to produce only gas may
be termed a gas well. Wells are created by drilling down into an oil or gas reserve
that is then mounted with an extraction device such as a pump jack which allows
extraction from the reserve. Creating the wells can be an expensive process,
costing at least hundreds of thousands of dollars, and costing much more when in
hard to reach areas, e.g., when creating offshore oil platforms. The process of
modern drilling for wells first started in the 19th century, but was made more
efficient with advances to oil drilling rigs during the 20th century
HKN SITES
FIRST DAY WE visited ST-2,we were welcomed by Eng.hunar who is HSE manager
in ST-2 he explained HSE precautions and teached us about site alarms,H2S gas if
the alarm goes off you should evacuate and go to master point 1 or 2 depending
on the direction of air blowing and go against it, second alarm was for JET
FIGHTERS which we hade to evacuate to anti-bombing bunkers for bombing or
any indirectly shooting, he then proceeded to explain how to use gas mask
ST-1
Second day we visited ST-1 site which had 6 wells which hasn’t started production
but were equipped with all the equipments ready to work then we visited the
warehouse where the rigs are stored, then he proceeds to explain how to make
lubrication mud and devices to filter to recycle the mud and re-use it
ST-PAD B TOUR
There was a well which was working and extracting crude oil and then pumping it
to heat exchangers and separating the water and gas from the crude they would
burn a part of the gas by flare and use a part needed to fuel the heaters ,then the
crude will be pumped to storage tanks (T 302 – T 303) Then it will be loaded to
tankers to transport it and the door of the tanker will be closed by a special seal
LABRATORY
Before loading the tankers with crude oil a sample will be taken to the lab to
check its specification and test it to see if its up to the standard, below is an
example of a sample taken in the laboratory
Date & time 11-6-2022
Sample point T-303
Observed S.G & temp C 0.823 34.4 C
S.G:@60 0.8372
API @60 38.5
Method measurement
H2S in oil 7 ppm
BS&W 0.0% sediments
0.02% water
Salt 14.90n PTB
RVP 3.0 PSI
25K facility
Is the biggest production facility in HKN ,which can produce 25000 barrels per day
Which is transported from 6 wells to the facility by two pipe lines ,one of them
goes to production and the other one goes for testing and vice versa each day it
changes ,after separating gas and water and H2S the crude oil is transported to 4
big storage tanks ,in 25k facility we have 4 big generators ,two of them work by
diesel and 2 works on gas that’s generated there
