DONNING & REMOVING STERILE GLOVES


1. Wash hands. 5
2. Open the package of sterile gloves.
● Place the package of sterile gloves on a clean dry 4
surface.
● Open the outer package without contaminating the
gloves or the inner package. 2
● Remove the inner package from the outer package. 2
● Open the inner package without touching the inner
surface. 8
3. Put the first glove on the dominant hand.
● Grasp the glove for the dominant hand by its cuff
with the thumb and first finger of the non-dominant 6
hand. Touch only the inside cuff.
● Insert the dominant into the glove and pull the glove
on. Keep the thumb of the inserted hand against the palm of 8
the hand during insertion.
● Leave the cuff turned down. 4
4. Put the 2nd glove on the non-dominant hand.
● Pick up the other glove with sterile gloved hand,
inserting the gloved fingers under the cuff and holding the 8
gloved thumb closed to the gloved palm.
● Pull on the 2nd glove carefully. Hold the thumb of the

1 gloved hand as far as possible from the palm. 8
●Adjust each glove and carefully pull the cuffs up by
sliding the fingers under the cuffs.
5. Remove and dispose used gloves.
● Remove the glove by grasping it on its palmar
surface just below the cuff, taking care to touch only glove to 6
glove. Pull the 1st glove completely off by inverting or rolling
the glove inside out.
● Continue to hold the inverted removed glove by the
fingers of the remaining gloved hand. Place the 1 st fingers of 6
the bare hand inside the cuff of the 2nd glove.
● Pull the 2nd off to the fingers by turning it inside out. 8
●Using the bare hands, continue to remove the gloves, 4
which are now inside out and dispose them in the refuse
container.
