because they apply to work generally rather than being specific to work in a particular profession or industry. In Ame rica these are known as Work place know-how. Employers these days focus on adaptation, cost reduction, increased productivity and new markets, products and services . Employees, consequently, need to demonstrate team work, problem solving and capacity to deal with non-routine processes. They should be able to make decisions, take responsibility and communicate effectively. These skills impart flexibility, initiative and the ability to undertake many different tasks.
