Monk Class: Way of the Dragon Guide

This document describes the Way of the Dragon monk subclass. It allows monks to take on dragon-like abilities by forming a pact with an actual dragon patron. The subclass features include techniques like Claw Strike to deal elemental damage with unarmed strikes, Tail Whip to knock opponents prone, and Wing Blast to push enemies away. Later abilities let monks leap great distances, reduce falling damage, blast cones of elemental energy, and ultimately strike opponents with the fury of a dragon's kick or punch.

Monk – Way of the Dragon

Many worship and respect the power of dragons. Atop the high peaks of Lokeed,
where the dragons soar through the skies, there are those that channel the power of
these mighty beasts. With the speed, power and energy of a dragon, one is nearly
unmatched. Way of the Dragon is a difficult and powerful path for those that
choose to embrace the Dragon.

Dragon Patron
When you choose this archetype you must enter a pact with a dragon for it to be
your patron. This can included any chromatic or metallic dragon of your choice
that exists in the world. You will gain the benefits of that dragon depending on its
color. Example: You pledge yourself to red dragon, your dragon abilities will be
based around that dragons element of fire, or you pledge to a white dragon, your
abilities will be based around that dragons element of cold…

Way of the Dragon Arts

At 3rd level, you learn the following fighting techniques:

Claw Strike: As a bonus action, you can spend 2 ki points to wreathe your hands
and feet in flames. Your unarmed strikes deal an additional 1d4 element damage
for 1 min.

Tail Whip: When striking with a Flurry of Blows attack, you can force a target to
succeed on a Dex save or be knocked prone.

Wing Blast: You can force a blast of wind from the power of your arms. As a
bonus action, you can spend 2 ki points to force all adjacent opponents to make a
Str save or be pushed 10ft away from you.

Dragon Leap
At 6th level, you learn the techniques that allow you to ascend into the skies like the
winged dragons. Your jump distance doubles. This increase can stack with Step of
the Wind, multiplying your total jump distance by 4. Additionally, your Slow Fall
ability now reduces damage from falling equal to your monk level multiplied by 3.
Dragon Element Blast
At 11th level, you can use your action to spend 1 or more ki points and release a
torrent of elemental energy. Each creature in a 30ft cone must make a Dex save.
Taking 3d6 element damage plus an additional 1d6 for each ki point expended, up
to a max of 10d6, or half on a successful save.

Ultimate Dragon Strike

At 17th level, you learn the true power of the Dragon. You gather your ki points
into a devastating kick or punch, striking your opponent with the full fury of a
raging dragon. As an action you can spend 3 ki points and make an unarmed strike.
On a hit, the target makes a Dex save. On a failed save, the target takes 5d8
element damage and 5d8 radiant damage, and if it is a Large or smaller creature, it
is flung into the air. For every 10 points of damage it takes, it is moved 10ft
upwards and falls. On a successful save, the target takes half damage and is not
flung.
