Community
- A community is a social unit that shares characteristics such as location, norms, religion,
values, practices, or identity.

Environment
- The environment can be described as the totality of all living and non-living elements
and their effects on human life.

Community Health
- Community health is a medical speciality concerned with the physical and mental well-
being of people in a certain geographic area.

Environmental Health
- Environmental health is the field of public health that deals with all components of the
natural and built environment that have an impact on human health.

Activity 2

1. When can you say that a community is an ideal one? What are the characteristics that a
community must have to be considered healthy?

- A good community is a cohesive, safe, confident, prosperous and happy place. It is free
of poverty and crime, providing a high quality of life for everyone that lives there.

2. As a citizen of the community, how can you make it an ideal one?


- A good citizen must coexist peacefully with his neighbors and fellow citizens.

3. List problems being encountered in your community and environment and explain its causes
and negative impacts.
● Air Pollution
- Air pollution can affect bodies of water and soil directly. This has the potential to
harm crops or reduce their output. High amounts of air pollution can also have a
number of negative health effects. It raises the chances of getting respiratory
infections, heart problems, and lung cancer.
● Drug Abuse
- Drug manufacture has a number of environmental consequences. It causes
widespread carbon emissions, water scarcity, pollution, and biodiversity loss.
Each of these effects has far-reaching short- and long-term consequences for all
species on Earth.
