Virtual reality (VR) and, to some extent, augmented reality (AR) have been
a science fiction dream for many years, possibly going back as far as the
1950s; However, over the past ten to twenty years, these conceptual ideas
have made their way into reality and are slowly starting to integrate into
society and daily life, also known as “emerging technologies”.
The display settings of VR & AR are few terms each term means something
different than the other. First we have Field of view which is represents the
exact visual area
In which users can see virtual content in an augmented reality headset.
Secondly, is
Refresh rate which means the numbers of times per second, and it
determines the
length of the latency of each image. Finally, we have frames per second, it
is the number of times in an image on the screen is refreshed each second.
The biggest advantage of VR is that you can be present in an environment
while you are not physically present. Also, one of the important advantages
is remote assistants in other words you will be able to help and assist
anywhere in the globe from your place as if you were there..
It can be said that VR will save a lot of time also a lot of money.
VR can be utilized via HMD, which is a virtual reality head mounted display
hardware device that is attached to a user’s head and presents virtual
reality content to a user’s eyes. A camera array should be placed in a
position that catches our visual motions. This technology is a system of
multiple cameras arranged around a subject, in either 180 or 360 degrees.
In order to make use of the properties of what we can see in HMD, there
are controllers that user’s holds in their hand to interact with a virtual
environment.
This technology is only going to be more ever present going forward as
investment increases, so in time, there will be an accurate way to measure
this technology’s value in society and education, and in other sectors
beyond entertainment. All trends point to this technology playing a vital
role in the future of learning and training, so it’s best to prepare and adapt
for this inevitable future and only time will tell its future impact on human
society.
