Spekers Project

The speaker's project idea was about how boredom can lead to brilliant ideas. She realized she had her most brilliant ideas when bored, such as when pushing a stroller. To develop her idea of "Bored and Brilliant", she conducted a brainstorming session but came up empty until reflecting on when she previously had good ideas. The TED talk was informative, teaching that boredom can help with goal-setting and that phones should be a tool rather than distracting us from being productive. Focussing on one task at a time is better than multitasking which depletes our mental resources. Technology is designed to trigger feelings of needing our phones to get more of our attention on social media platforms.

Question

1. What was the speaker’s project idea?

Answer:

Speaker’s project or idea is how boredom makes someone craft a brilliant idea.

2. How did the speaker come up with the idea?

Answer:

She sat down to perform a brainstorming session and came out empty-handed. She learns that
there wasn't something there waiting to be found, but rather that there was nothing there at all and
she began to recall the last time she had a brilliant thought, which she discovered was while wheeling
that stroller. She realizes she has never been bored, and she begins to ponder all of the issues that have
been plaguing her head, eventually resulting in the concept of Bored and Brilliant.

3. Was her project informative? List down all the information you learned from TED talk.

Answer:

Yes, the speaker project was informative, I learned a lot on her regarding how boredom can lead
us to brilliant idea.

 Boredom gave us some clarity and helped some of us to set some goals.
 Phones should not be the taskmasters it should be a tool
 Checking or browsing on social media is just waste of your time instead of that do
something more productive.

4. How frequent do you use your phone? Can you see yourself doing the speaker’s challenge?

Answer:

I spend almost 12 hours on my phone everyday, and I can see myself participating in the
challenge, like the people who shared their experiences, I believe I will fell the same way they do.

5. What are the possible implications of multi-tasking? Do we finish more or do we finish less tasks
than focusing on one (1) task at a time?
Answer:

Doing more than one things at once, we’re not actually doing more than one thing at once,
because the brain doesn’t work the way. Instead we rapidly shifting from one thing to the next,
depleting neural resources as we go. We will finish more if we will focus on one task at a time rather
than shifting from one task to another.

6. According to the search engineer at Google, why is technology built to trigger social media users
an itchy feeling if they are not with their phones?

Answer:

To get more attention from us and they don’t want us and they don’t want us to stop for having
that feeling being connected with one another. So you can spend more time on browsing Facebook,
Instagram, Messenger and other social media platforms. Example when you want to go out but you end
up browsing on your phone all day because of the trending topic in the internet.
