My Perception of Life

My parents' decision to migrate from the Visayas to Northern Luzon shaped the narrator's identity and behavior. As a child in Iloilo City, the narrator failed twice in grade one and saw studying as a burden, caring only about playing. After the family moved for her father to find work, the narrator gained a new perspective through experiences like farm work in Pangasinan. This difficult past led the narrator to transform into a serious student afraid to miss a single lesson. The narrator's story demonstrates how one's past can influence their present self and willingness to work towards the future.

Think about and reflect on your past. Has your past influenced you in one way or another?

How
does your past shape your identity and behavior today? Make an essay that discusses your
answer.

My past truly affects the way am I in the present. The decision that my parents made in
the past saved my education and my views on life. I was a clueless girl, all I think is having fun
and studying is a burden to my happiness, which comes to be my life. Everything has changed
from the day we left the Visayas and migrated to Northern Luzon where it all shape the
foundation of myself today.

Originally, I was born in Iloilo city both my parents are Visayan. They were rise there and have
their own family wherein we are born and experience life in this world. Actually, my parents are
performers in a different aspect though, they produce 12 lives in the clan. I’m the 11 th child, a
girl that has nothing to do just to play with friends and disregards studying. In that situation, I
failed twice in grade one and I continue being like that. One day, my older sister called from
Pampanga offering work to my father, a fisherman who had no permanent work in the city, he
immediately replied ‘’yes’’. After the day tomorrow, I saw myself sailing ongoing to Manila. Since
then, I experience the hardship of life when we came to Pangasinan. I’ve learned a lot of things
by working on the farm like planning rice and corn barehanded, pasturing the animals, and
more. The atmosphere I experience living here in Pangasinan becomes my bridge of conversion
from a girl who was not serious about studying and just playing just evolve to an excellent one
that afraid she might miss even one lesson in her studies.

Our past really shapes the way we are in the present. The experience became the basis
for us to change and strengthen our will to continue to look forward shaping the beauty of our
future. As Oogway from the movie Kung Fu Panda says,” You are the master of your destiny:
No one and nothing can come in between you and your destiny expect you. Take destiny by the
horns and have fun”.
