                                         1. Introduction
Knowledge, abilities, experiences, and competences in sports management are a rapidly
developing area of study for both academics and professionals in the industry (Agha, 2012).
Many individuals are interested in sports because they consider it a respectable profession (Agha,
2012). Opportunities for critical reflection in both formal and informal settings are being
incorporated into sport management curricula to increase graduates' marketability. This study
explores some of the possible causes for the gap between what companies in the sports sector
need and what students graduate with from sport management schools. This review's findings
indicate that critical reflection in postsecondary sport management programs is narrowly focused
on the person, ignoring the social dimensions and other contextual characteristics (such as
organizational culture) of the sport sector (Agha, 2012).
In this study, we propose an operationalization of critical reflection into six different dimensions:
three personal ones (experimentation, feedback seeking, and career consciousness); and three
societal ones (challenging group-think, openness about mistakes, and sharing ideas). The report
closes with recommendations for future studies and higher education policy directions to
improve the social components of critical reflection in sport management curriculum through a
combination of formal and informal learning environments (Cuneen, 2016). All aspects of sports
management as a business should be applied to the day-to-day operational activities that
frequently take place at a variety of sporting facilities or within certain sports organizations, and
management activities are differentiated from their dominant orientation to perform functional
elements of a chain of elements and processes in sports.
There can be no doubt that the "Sports" industry is huge. When it comes to staging large-scale
events, especially sporting activities like football, a stadium is a must-have. Visiting Camp Nou
and the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona, Spain was a highlight of our study abroad program. The
field trip was a fantastic chance for us to learn about the various subfields of sport management
and gain insight into the wide variety of career paths available to us in the sporting goods
business. Everything about it was intriguing, and I'm grateful to Dr. Mike Rayner and Tom
Webb and his colleagues at the University of Portsmouth for making such a great
difference(Cuneen, 2016).
                                                 2
The University of Portsmouth's Master of Science in Sport Management program has given me
the tools I need to thrive in the fast-paced sport management industry. Over the past 30 years, the
sport sector has had a significant influence on the global economy through public infrastructure
investment, resource mobilization, and the creation of new professions and jobs. It's one of the
fastest-growing industries, and that's good news for all the people who want to make a living in
the sports industry(Cuneen, 2016). The program's combination of a hands-on academic
curriculum with industry trips, conferences, and events has provided me with a comprehensive
theoretical and practical education in Sports Management taught by top professionals and
experts. The trip to Barcelona is a great example of such a visit. Plus, we get to try out and
analyze a novel model for the Sport Management industry, which can only help our education
and professional development. Drs. Tom Webb, Kieren McEwan, and Mike Rayner, we really
appreciate this fantastic field trip.

Application for the position of Supervisor in Walton park Indoor Football
Center,
Dear Sir/Madam,
Please consider me for the position of sports supervisor at sports center. I've been
a professional player for five years and hold a Bachelor's degree in sports
management. My goal has always been to make the switch from playing on the
field to leading teams from an office setting.
The degree fits into my overall strategy, and it has unquestionably improved my
understanding of sports management. I can offer insight from the perspective of
both a player and a manager. This diversity of opinion makes me a strong
contender for the role. It is up to me to put up a winning squad that also has a
strong public profile. Our team's players can give their whole attention to the
game since I'm handling the administrative details in the background. I'll make
projections about the team's performance using cutting-edge technologies and
methods. I can definitively calculate the total earnings from any given function. I
am comfortable working with a wide variety of media outlets, and can use this
skill to coordinate commercials, promote events, and maintain a strong public
image for the team. Problems will be resolved with the organization's interests at
the forefront.
                                         4
You may trust that as the administrator of the sports facility, everything will
always be in order. In the context of a formal interview, I would be happy to
elaborate on my skills and experience.
Respectfully,
Ali Haider

                                     3. Critical reflection
In the research, people often mix up the terms critical thinking, reflection, critical reflection,
reflective practice, reflective thinking, and reflexivity. Most people agree that critical thinking
focuses more on the logical part of thinking, while critical reflection looks at the emotional and
behavioural parts. Emotional and behavioural parts of critical reflection happen when people talk
to each other. Research shows that critical reflection is good for students, employees who work
with students during WIL, and companies that hire sport management graduates in a number of
ways. First, critical reflection makes learning easier for each person because it is a key part of
putting theory into practice (DeLuca, 2021).
The first day of my trip to Barcelona was November 1. It took place on November 1. We stayed
at the Generator Hotel and had a meeting where we found out what our goal for the sports
management tour was. The next day, we had a chance to go to the Camp Nou. The Business
Development and Partnership Manager, Octavi Tarrés, started off with a very interesting
presentation about how FC Barcelona is going to improve the whole process of selling tickets.
Even for a big club like Barcelona, there are still a lot of problems with the ticketing process, and
they will come up with some interesting solutions in the future. We also saw a great presentation
about how the new Camp Nou will look. FC Barcelona is not just a football club; they also have
teams for basketball, futsal, handball, and ice hockey, among others (DeLuca, 2021). They are
lucky to own all the land around the stadium, so they will change everything about the buildings
around Camp Nou.
After this meeting, a guide could take us on a tour of the stadium. I was surprised by how many
people were on this tour. It was hard to keep up with our guide. Even though the stadium is very
old, the atmosphere inside was again very unique. I could only imagine what it must be like
when they play at home. It must be something we'll all get to do at some point in our lives. On a
big, interactive screen, you can play around with different parts of the club and its best parts. I
never came here because there were always a lot of people (DeLuca, 2021).
After you've learned all about the club's history, you can move on to the next stage to see more
trophies from football and other sports like hockey and basketball that the club represents. There
are also a few other things, like jerseys and big pictures of famous Barça teams.
                                                 8
Then there's Messi. He may be from Argentina, but Barcelona has taken him in as their own. In
one corner, you can see what I think are copies of the trophies he continues to collect for himself.
A nice addition!
As part of a field trip from the University of Portsmouth, we went to Camp Nou Stadium. It was
a great experience, and we got to see more than just the stadium. For example, we went to the
Barcelona museum, which has FC Barcelona's trophies, photos, and other documents about the
club's history (Jamieson, 2018). Through strategies and marketing plans, we learned more about
                                                 9
the operational and management side of sports, as well as the business side of running sports
products and services. From the field and the stands, we had great views of the whole stadium.
The Camp Nou is one of those stadiums that just pops up out of nowhere. As you walk down a
normal street in Barcelona, this huge building will look like a giant standing over you. Most
people stand behind the grandstand, which is where the stadium tour begins and where the
megastore is. As you walk through, you see fans from all over the world and a sea of red and
blue. This shows how popular the team is around the world (Jamieson, 2018). The megastore is a
great sight in and of itself. As soon as you walk in, you see mannequins of the whole team
wearing both home and away shirts, with a big Barça crest in the middle. "Mes Que Un Club,"
the motto of Barcelona, is written on the stairs that lead to the lower floor in the middle of the
room. A great sight for anyone who likes football.
                                               10
The original capacity of the stadium was 106,146, but it was expanded to 121,401 for the 1982
FIFA World Cup.
Camp Nou also serves as the home field for the Catalan national football team. In addition to
football games, the stadium is also utilised for other activities. Milan defeated Steaua București,
4-0, in the 1989 European Cup Final on May 24. In the 1992 Summer Olympics, Camp Nou
played home to the football competition and final. The stadium had two extra levels of seats
erected above the original roofline in preparation for these events.
Only the installation of the club museum in 1984 marked a significant shift at Camp Nou
following 1982. In 1993–1994, the stadium underwent extensive renovations that included
lowering the field by 2.5 meters (8 feet), eliminating the security gap that separated the grass
from the galleries, and replacing the standing area with individual seats. In time for the 1998–
1999 season, a new press box, renovated presidential grandstand and boxes, parking underneath
the main grandstand, and updated lighting and sound systems were all installed. In the 1998–99
season, UEFA designated Camp Nou as a five-star stadium due to its excellent amenities and
services. Popularly known as Camp Nou, the stadium was originally named Estadi del FC
                                                 11
Barcelona upon its construction. It wasn't until the 2000-01 season that club members opted to
change the name to its more well-known moniker (Preuss, 2017).
Camp Nou, where FC Barcelona plays football, opened in 1957. It is one of the biggest stadiums
in the world, both in terms of size and the number of people it can hold. The stadium has become
famous around the world because it has seen FC Barcelona win and lose. Fans of Barcelona love
and respect it, while fans of other teams hate it.
                             Olympic Stadium Experience
The Barcelona Olympic Stadium would be our destination the next day. With the help of a
knowledgeable museum guide, we learn about the origins and development of the Olympic
Games as well as the celebration of the 1992 Barcelona Games. The stadium was subsequently
rebuilt into a massive venue that could seat 55,000 people for the 1936 Summer Olympics, but
the games were cancelled due to the Spanish Civil War. After the Olympic Games in 1992, it
mostly served as a venue for football matches and concerts in Barcelona.
                                                     12
The reason why the stadium is dubbed "the hidden stadium" is because it was dug down dozens
of meters, making it seem shorter from the outside. South Korea's capital city of Seoul is home to
the Olympic Stadium, also known as Jamsil Olympic Stadium (formerly Romanized as
Chamshil) (previously Romanized as Chamshil).
The Olympic Games, which were held in Barcelona in 1992 and for which extensive media
preparations were made, are given a sizable supplementary exhibit hall within the museum.
Exciting too is Joan Antoni Samaranch's personal art collection. He led the International
Olympic Committee for over 20 years and was instrumental in organizing the 1992 Summer
Games in Barcelona. As a tribute to his life and legacy following his passing, the museum now
bears his name. The linked nature of sports, art, and culture is brought into sharp focus by his
collection.
Those who want to get some exercise themselves will enjoy the final stop on the tour the most,
as it features interactive multimedia installations where they can test their reaction time,
experience what professional weightlifters go through, and race against Carl Lewis, the current
world record holder in the 100-meter dash. Then there's a fun documentary that provides useful
information on Barcelona's status as a city of sports and constant activity. For the simple reason
that motion is the very stuff of which our bodies are composed.
                                               13
Located on the lower slopes of Montjuic Hill, close to the original sites of the 1992 Olympic
Games, the Barcelona Olympic and Sports Museum is the city's best museum devoted to sports
at both the professional and amateur levels.
The museum currently holds about 14,000 objects that were left behind after the Games were
done. Items from the 1992 Olympic Games, such as uniforms, credentials, medals, and
souvenirs. Sports photography of prominent sportsmen and their accomplishments are also on
show at the museum.
The Olympic Games held in Barcelona in 1992 were a defining occasion, ushering in a period of
unprecedented economic growth and introducing groundbreaking design changes. In 2005, the
city council of Olympia discussed plans to construct a museum that would capture the spirit of
the city and of athletics as a whole. The museum, to be built by architects Xavier Basiana and
Toni Camps, opened its doors to the public in the same year as the Olympic Stadium. Since its
2007 opening, the Olympic and Sports Museum has been the only facility of its kind in Europe to
have such flexible and state-of-the-art modern technology and multimedia experiences. Many
different sports are covered in the museum's displays. There are pictures and other mementos of
                                               14
great sportsmen on display as soon as you walk in the door. The Barcelona Olympic Museum is
one of a kind, and it's full with interesting artefacts from the city's sporting past!
Later, we took advantage of the fantastic opportunity to check out la Masia. Since they seldom
allow anyone to enter through their gates, this may be an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me.
It's incredible to see such massive structures dedicated to so many different sports all in one spot.
Our amazing Field Trip was over now. I want to say a huge thank you to the University of
Portsmouth and The teams. Everything was so well put together because of them. Every club we
went to was very nice to us, and I know they did everything they could to make sure we had the
best time ever (Preuss, 2017). Even when it didn't have anything to do with football, we got to
see some amazing places in Barcelona. This is what makes this Field Trip special and why we
will always remember it. The trip to the Olympic Stadium and Museum was important because it
helped me learn about the origins and development of the Olympic Games, the history of sports
in Barcelona, the celebration of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, and how the games
affected the host city, which is amazing. For this amazing trip, I'd like to thank the University of
Portsmouth, Tom Webb, Kieren McEwan, and Dr. Mike Rayner.
                                                   15
                                            4. Conclusion
There are a wide variety of opportunities for advancement in the field of sports and sports
administration, particularly on a global scale. The most compelling findings from this study
suggest that sports management has advanced significantly as a distinct scientific discipline over
the past three decades. It is anticipated that this expansion will maintain its current rate in the
years ahead. Sports are an industry that generates billions of dollars and euros all over the world.
That's good news for entrepreneurs looking to break into the sports market. There is a wealth of
information regarding potential pathways and trends for bettering sports and athletes in the
world's sports literature (Ratten, 2020).
Managers may use this as a stepping stone to more in-depth investigation and analysis. Workers
in the sports industry are in high demand as the number of people who know about, participate
in, and watch sports continues to rise. On the other hand, new niche employment opportunities
for those with sports management expertise are urgently required (Ratten, 2020). Thus, there are
numerous programs all over the world that provide the appropriate training for potential
employees, and new ones are always being developed based on compliance criteria and
recommendations for the growth of certain sports.
People in industrialized market economies are increasingly finding opportunities in sports, and
not simply as athletes. Typically, these individuals are in charge of overseeing some aspect of the
sports industry's supply chain, whether it be raw materials, equipment, personnel, or final goods.
This growth has increased the pressure for sports to be managed systematically, with an eye
toward the long-term success and benefit of the sports industry as a whole, as well as the health
and well-being of the individuals, communities, and institutions that are integral to that success
and benefit (Ratten, 2020).
The University of Portsmouth's MSc in Sport Management has given me the skills I need for a
successful career in the fast-paced world of Sport Management. In the last 30 years, the sport
industry has had a bigger impact on the world economy by investing in public infrastructure,
getting people to work together, and making new jobs and careers (Ratten, 2020). Today, it is
one of the professional fields with the most economic growth, giving many people who want to
work in sports a chance to do so.
                                                16
By combining a hands-on academic program with visits to businesses, conferences, and events,
the program taught by top professionals and experts gave me a theoretical and practical
education in Sports Management from every angle. The field trip to Barcelona is a great example
of this kind of visit. We also get to try out and study a different model of the Sport Management
field, which can help us learn more and advance our careers. Drs. Tom Webb, Kieren McEwan,
and Mike Rayner deserve a lot of credit for this amazing field trip.
When students get a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management in Barcelona, they have the chance
to learn more about business in one of the world's smartest cities. This forward-thinking city
helps entrepreneurs and innovators grow and thrive. It attracts top tech talent and innovative
startups, of which there are currently more than 1300 (Solberg, 2016). Some of the world's
biggest multinational companies, like Airbnb, Amazon, and the Siemens Innovation Center, are
based in Barcelona.
This multicultural and cosmopolitan city on the Mediterranean coast has almost 5 kilometres of
golden beaches and gives students a lot of chances to play sports and meet new people. It is
known for being the home of FC Barcelona, but it also has a lot of museums, monuments on the
UNESCO list, and architectural masterpieces by Antoni Gaud, the city's most famous native son
(Solberg, 2016).
As a master's student at the University of Portsmouth, I learned a lot! We recently had the chance
to visit Camp Nou and one of Barcelona's most famous Olympic stadiums as part of our
professional development module in sports. Special thanks to our module coordinators, Drs. Tom
Webb and Mike Rayner, who helped us see how both stadiums are run from a business point of
view (Schwab and Legg, 2015).
