THE PHILIPPINE TOURISM INDUSTRY

Travel Service
• Providing services related to travel and needs after arriving at
the destination.

What are the services rendered to travelers or tourist?


• Arranging or booking vacation or travel packages.
• Arranging travel accommodations.
• Booking tickets for domestic or foreign travel by means of
transportation.

Travel (journey)
→ Is the act of moving from one location to another. This can be
long-distance travel, short-distance travel, overseas travel,
domestic travel, or other various forms.

PURPOSE OF TRAVEL
• Business
• Education
• Leisure
• Visiting Someone
• And others

Tourism (vacation)
→ It is defined by the World Tourism Organization (WTO) as "
activities of persons travelling to and staying outside their usual
environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure,
business and other purposes.
IMPORTANCE OF TRAVEL AND TOURISM
a. Create thousand of jobs
b. Cultural exchange between foreigners and citizens
c. Source of public and private income
d. Publicity of nation

Travel Industry
→ Refers to the numerous aspects of the wider service industry
which cater for the needs and desire of those who have travelled
from one part of the world to another.

Tourism Industry
→ Is grouped of clusters of small firms which deals in providing
attractive and affordable holiday packages to its customers
either within state, country or at an international level.

THE PHILIPPINE TOURISM INDUSTRY

a.) Public Sector (Government Sector)


→ It is run by the government known as the public sector. The
public sector is part of the state that deals with the production,
ownership, sale, provision, delivery, and allocation of goods and
service by and for the government or its citizen.

Department of Tourism
→ It is the executive department of the Philippine
Government responsible for the regulation of
Philippine Tourism Industry and the promotion
of the Philippines as a tourist destination.
→ It is the primary planning, implementing, and regulatory
government agency tasked to develop and promote the
Philippine tourism industry, both domestic and international.

TOURISM SLOGAN
a) WOW Philippines - was a tourism marketing campaign used to
promote tourism in the
Philippines. then Tourism
Secretary Richard Gordon
conceptualized the tagline
"Wow Philippines” himself in 2002.

b) Pilipinas Kay Ganda - was a short-


lived advertising campaign by the
Department of Tourism to promote
tourism in the Philippines. Launched
in 2010, it replaced WOW Philippines
campaign.

b.) Private Sector


→ Private companies and organizations produce goods and
services to the consumers with the aim of making profit for the
owners and shareholders of the private enterprise.
Transportation Sector
→ This sector provides means of mobility from the point of origin
to the point of destinations through air, land, water, and rail
modes, passing through various types of terrain.

EXAMPLES:
• Airplane - is a vehicle with wings and one or ore engines that
enable it to fly through the air.

• Helicopter - an aircraft with large metal blades on top that spin


and lift it into the air.

• Blimps - a large aircraft without wings that floats because it is


filled with gas.

• Bus - a large motor vehicle designed to carry passengers usually


along a fixed route according to a schedule.

• Taxicab - is a car driven by a person whose job is to take people


where they want to go in return for money.

• Motorcycle - a vehicle with two wheels tandem, handlebars for


steering, a saddle seat, and pedals by which it is propelled.

Accommodation Sector
→ It is one of the core needs for any tourism activity. Travelers and
tourists need lodging for rest while they are on a tour.

EXAMPLES:
• Guesthouses - are privately owned homes where the owner rent
individual bedrooms to visitors.
• B & B - a private house offered as an accommodation when
serving bed and breakfast.
- B & Bs usually accommodate guests of not more than 6.
- dinner may be served upon guests’ request
- a furnished housing unit with kitchen area, living room
area, sleeping area and bath.

• Hotel - normally has at least 20 letting bedrooms with private


facilities. They serve breakfast, dinner and, normally, lunch.

• Motel - a lodging establishments that caters to travelers with


automobiles and provides self-service parking on premises.

• Boarding house - is a residential facility that provides lodging


and meals for guests who normally consider the facility their
home, whether temporarily or permanently.

• Condominium (condos) - refers to apartments in high- rise


buildings located mostly on recreational areas.

• Dormitory - refers to a lodging facility affiliated with some


educational or other institution that provides sleeping
accommodations for those in residence.

Food & Beverages Sector


→ Examples are food chain establishments, restaurants, bar, coffee
shops, etc.

Quick service restaurants


→ establishment where food is prepared and served quickly and
easily to customers.
EXAMPLES:
• Jollibee
• McDonald’s
• Wendy’s Hamburger

Ethnic Foodservice
→ is one that specializes in food associated with a particular
culture.
EXAMPLES:
• Ginza Japanese Restaurant
• Cabalen Restaurant (Filipino/Kapampangan)
• Tia Maria’s Restaurant (Filipino)
• Arirang (Korean)
• Luk Yuen (Chinese)
• Italiannis (Italian)
• Benihana (Japanese)

Table Service
→ is one in which customers are seated and served at tables.

EXAMPLES:
• Max’s Restaurant
• The Aristocrat Restaurant

Specialty Restaurant
→ feature a particular kind of food that is usually theme related.
EXAMPLES:
• Angel’s Pizza (pizza)
• Bacolod Chicken Inasal (chicken)
• Pancake House (pancake)
• Auntie Annie’s (pretzels)
• Red Ribbon (cakes & bread products)
• Dunkin Donuts (doughnut)

Specialty Coffee
→ chain-operated, franchised, or independent establishments
offering a variety of coffee bean (sold whole or ground), an
extensive menu of hot and cold drinks, and a limited selection of
pastries and sandwiches.

Theme Restaurant
• characterized by special theme that incorporates the design,
menu, and service of the restaurant.

Family Restaurant
• is one that caters to family groups – parents with children and
other contemporary family groupings.
EXAMPLES:
• TGI Fridays
• Snack and Landers

Cafeteria
• is a foodservice establishment that permits the customer to see
the food available and to make selections from among those
displayed.

Fine Dinning
• is one where a good selection of menu items is offered ,
generally at least fifteen or more different entrees cooked to
order, with nearly all the food being made on the premises from
scratch using raw or fresh ingredients.

Buffet
• is a type of food service characterized by long table or counter
on which a selection of varied food is attractively displayed on
plates, in bowls, and in others.

Catering
• prepares and serves food to a group of people who gathered for
a specific purpose such as wedding, debut, anniversary, meeting.

Ice Cream Parlor

• A tourist attraction is a place of interest where tourists visit,
typically for its inherent or exhibited natural or cultural value,
historical significance, natural or built beauty, offering leisure,
adventure, and amusement.
