1 Definitions AIS 053

Two Wheeler:
A two wheeled motor vehicle with maximum speed exceeding 25 kmph and engine capacity exceeding 25 cc if
fitted with a thermic engine, or motor power exceeding 0.25 kW if fitted with electric motor. The seating capacity
is limited to two persons. A sidecar may be attached to a two-wheeler. The seating capacity of the sidecar will be
limited to one person.

CMV rule 2 & AIS 053:

L1 Category:
A two-wheeler with maximum speed not exceeding 45 km/h and engine capacity not exceeding 50 cc if fitted with
a thermic engine or motor power not exceeding 0.5 kW if fitted with electric motor

L2 Category :
A two wheeler other than L1 category

2 Grade ability test AIS 003:1999


The Gradeability requirements shall be tested in GVW condition.

Performance:
• It shall be able climb at least 7 degree

4 EMC AIS 004 part 3-2009


1) Broad Band (Wide Band) radiated electric and magnetic emissions shall be measured over additional frequency range
of 9 kHz to 30 MHz- vehicle shall run constant speed of 40 km/h or maximum speed which is higher.
2) Conducted emission for Battery Operated Vehicle measured over frequency range of 450 kHz to 30 MHz
3) narrow band radiated electromagnetic emissions over frequency range of 30 MHz to 1000 MHz- vehicle shall run at
25km/h or at maximum speed whichever is higher
4) Immunity test as per this standard

3) Rear-view mirrors shall be mounted or adjusted in such a way that the distance of the centre of the reflective
surface, as measured in a horizontal plane, is at least 280 mm outward from the longitudinal vertical plane passing
through the centre of the steering head of the vehicle.
4) The adjusted position of mirror shall remain substantially unchanged after vehicle is driven at speeds of up to 80%
of its maximum design speed
