Q1. Give a detailed explanation of who and what does the free bird symbolize.

Ans.) Free bird refers people white Americans .It symbolize that White American people has
freedom to enjoy their life and had freedom to move anywhere in the world .There were free to
do anything they want. They were given all human rights. They can achieve all of their goal as
there is no restriction for them.
Q2. Describe below given stanza with reference to the context.

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams


his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.

Ans.)This stanza has been selected from the poem Caged Bird written by Maya Angelou Maya
Angelou .She was an American memoirist and civil right activist. This poem reflects the
victimization of black people in American culture.

Explanation :The poet describes about her dream that her dreams have died as she has been
never given opportunity to fulfill her dreams .However all white fellows were able to achieve
all their goals . The speaker has lost all his hopes that her screams are like a person who had bad
dream .Then speaker says that they can cut her wing and can tie her legs but no one can stop her
to to express her desires.

Q3. Explain in detail the similarities that can be drawn between the caged bird and the poet’s feelings?

Ans) That Both have dreams but cannot fulfil them because they don’t have freedom to achieve
their dreams .Both life is full of rage and pain .Both were made to be free but never experienced
freedom. Both can just sing and cry to express that they want freedom But only the people that
are near them can hear them. Both want freedom to move anywhere in the world and want to
enjoy their life. Both wantt want to live a normal and a happy life like others,
