Introduction
The report includes information on
inventories by farm type, age
category, and top producing regions,
as well as production volume, supply,
and disposition, as well as average
monthly farmgate, wholesale, and
retail prices. The Commercial and
Backyard Livestock and Poultry
Surveys, which are carried out in all
provinces twice a year, generate data.
Objectives
1. To Be aware of the recent inventory of Duck (poultry)
population in the country.
2. To Identify the problems besetting (constant problem)
the Duck (poultry) industry of the country today.
3. To Cite prospects (projections )about Duck (poultry)
production in the Philippines.
Results and Discussion
Volume of Duck Production from
2019-2021
The total volume of duck
production in 2021 was
estimated at 29.10 thousand
metric tons, liveweight. This was
-1.5 percent lower than the
previous year’s output of 29.55
thousand metric tons,
liveweight.

Farmgate Price
In 2021, the average
farmgate price of duck
for meat was quoted at
PhP 80.20 per kilogram,
liveweight. This was -0.2
percent lower than the
previous year’s average
farmgate price of PhP
80.38 per kilogram,
liveweight.
Imports Report
The total volume of imported duck meat in 2021 was estimated at
5.00 thousand metric tons. This was lower by -92.0 percent from the
62.39 thousand metric tons level in 2020.
Total imported goods in July 2021, which amounted to USD 9.71
billion, increased at an annual rate of 24.0 percent. In June 2021, the
annual increase was higher at 43.4 percent, while in July 2020,
imports value decreased by -20.8 percent annually.
The total value of imported duck meat decreased by -96.1 percent,
from USD 300.59 million in 2020 to USD 11.87 million in 2021.

(1)Lack of quality breeder stocks
It has been cited as one of the major issues in duck egg production in
the Philippines. This is due to the lack of specialized breeder farms
and hatcheries in the country
(2) Duck Plague (Duck Virus Enteritis)
Duck virus enteritis is an acute, contagious, highly fatal disease of
waterfowl caused by a herpes virus. This disease is most likely to
affect mature ducks, but is also seen in young ducks. Affected birds
show sluggishness, ruffled feathers, greenish-yellow diarrhea that is
sometime blood-stained.
(3) Duck Virus hepatitis
Duck virus hepatitis is a highly fatal contagious disease of young
ducklings, 1-28 days of age. Ducklings are most susceptible at the
younger ages and gradually become more resistant as they grow older.
The disease is rarely seen in ducklings over 4 weeks of age. The onset of
the disease is very rapid, it spreads quickly through the flock and may
cause up to 90% mortality.
(4)Botulism Ducks that have access to stagnant ponds or other
areas where decaying organic matter (animal carcasses, in
particular) is found may consume toxins produced by the bacterium
Clostridium botulinum.

Farmgate Price
In 2021, the average farmgate price
of duck egg was quoted at PhP 7.15
per piece. This was 1.6 percent
higher than the previous year’s
average farmgate price of PhP 7.04
per piece. During the reference
year, the highest farmgate price
was recorded in December at PhP
7.44 per piece, while the lowest
was observed in May at PhP 6.79
per piece.
