3 Electrical safety
• All electric cabinets should remain locked when not under direct control of qualified
electrician.
• Do not use the cabinets as a toolbox or spare parts storage container. The inherent
vibration and magnetism associated with transformer and motor starters can cause
inadvertent contact of foreign objects with live circuits.
• Only qualified electricians should perform any electrical troubleshooting or
maintenance. Remove all watches and rings that could contact live electric circuits.
• Some electrical components may have power when the main circuit breaker is open -
verify that power is disconnected before servicing.
• Do not tamper with safety interlock circuits, safety guards or other safety devices,
except as required during normal maintenance and troubleshooting. Confirm that all
safety devices and circuits are replaced and functioning before operation is resumed.
• Shut of electrical power while making or breaking electrical cables.
• Be sure to connect the incoming power supply to the terminals corresponding to
incoming voltage. (Transformer T11, T16)
4 Conditions for start
• Check that oil level is OK, that e-stop pushbutton not is pressed.
• Main switch Q7 to be on.
• The digital volt meter (P12) will show actual voltage.
• Pilot lamp "power on" (H53) will light. /e.g. 110VAC/.
• The pilot lamps: H36, H39, H53 will light.
• When pressing the pushbutton "alarm reset"(S4), the E-stop relay (K128) will be
activated. Further more the relay (K11) "low oil level" will be activated…the pilot lamps
H36, H39 will extinguish.
• Now the start push button (S1) can be pressed….
APC application:
CAUTION: It is possible to start the power unit from the S1 start button at the starter
panel when the APC system is not started. When the APC system is started is the S1
start button at the starter panel disabled.
There will be no automatic shut down of the power unit if the oil level is low or oil
temperature is high when the power unit is started from the starter panel! Check oil
level and temperature manually through sight glas at oil tank.
• Power supply K61, K61Y will be activated and motor starts running in Y-mode. The time
relay starts. After some 5-10 seconds the time relay switches the contactors so that
K61Y drops and K61-D activates. Motor runs in D-mode.
• Press stop pushbutton (S2) for normal stop.

24VDC supply.
1 st channel is used for warning signal. When released (130C) a pilot lamp(H37)
will be turned on at the front panel.
2 nd channel is used for stop, when motor is overheated(155C). The relay
contacts will automatically be resetted when temperature is turned to normal.
K26 Phase sequense relay. The relay supervises the three incoming phases with
respect to right phase sequence. If wrong phase sequense should be
connected, the relay will not be activated. No voltage will run to the Q7 under
voltage coil and main switch will trip. A pilot lamp (H35) will indicate at the
panel.
Note: The out going cables from cabinet to the motor will not be phase
sequence protected by the relay. These cables will normally be installed at
the Atlas Copcos' workshop and the circuit/rotation direction will be tested
before delivery.
K27 Safe edge relay The relay is for evaluation of the resistance in the safe-edge
circuit.
The relay will indicate green light when circuit is approx. 8.2 kohm. The relay
will indicate yellow light when circuit is broken. The relay will indicate red light
when safe edge is activated. The relay contacts 13-14 will only make, when
green light is on. With a jumper between Y1/Y2 the relay will be set for
automatic reset, otherwise a reset button has to be incorporated in the circuit.
When not running with safe-edge bar the stop circuit has to be override by a
jumper between X1/14-X1/21.
K128 Relay for E-stop. The relay is equipped with interlocked opposing contacts with
5 make and 3 break contacts.
P12, P13 Digital Volt/A-meter. P12 shows the Voltage of the incoming net, P13 shows the
actual motor current.

S3 E-stop push button "stay pushed type" Pushing the E-stop will disconnect the
voltage and stop the motor immediately. The E-stop relay will turn off. To reset
the relay you first have to release the E stop push button by turning the knob
ccw. After that, press "alarm reset"- S4.
S4 Alarm reset pushbutton. The pushbutton has two tasks:
-To reset the E-stop relay K128. See under S3.
-To reset the relay "low oil level" (K11)
S5, S6 Oil level switch, Oil temperature high
Oil level switch will break at low level.
Oil temperature switch will break at too high temperature.
APC application:
S5 and S6 switches are not used, because oil level and temperature signal goes
directly to the control system.
Pi, S10, V10, Ground fault test circuit. Components in the circuit for testing the function of
K128 the external mounted ground fault equipment.
T11, T16 Transformers
Note: When working in the cabinet make sure, that the main voltage is
switched off in the feeding end.
Transformers T11 & T16 are equipped with multi voltage connection
possibilities. Check before the main voltage is applied that the connection is
correct for the voltage desired.
T11 is a transformer for the control voltage of 110V. It is used, among others,
for feeding the under voltage release coil (K7)in the main isolator (Q7). If circuit
breaker (F6) is on, main voltage is applied at the transformer's primary
windings despite of the fact that the main isolator is in off position!
T16 is a transformer for control voltage 110VAC and 20-24V for feeding the
rectifier bridge (V1, 24VDC). This transformer will be turned off by the main
isolator (Q7).
V1 Rectifier Bridge. The rectifier bridge is for converting the AC current into DC
pulses. The rectifier bridge is protected from over current by the circuit breaker
F69. The voltage from the rectifier is more or less pulses and not suited to be
used for sensitive electronic circuits.
The rectifier is mainly source for the horn 24VDC and some illumination lamps
and relays.
U2 Power supply. Input 110VAC, output 24VDC 1 Amp Stabilized (electronic short-
circuit protected). The 24VDC voltage is used for control voltage.

6 Electrical system description
The components in the electrical system are:
• Three phase electric motor
• Starter box including main circuit breaker, star delta starter, ground fault detection
system (option), start and stop buttons, emergency stop circuit, supervising circuits.
The starter box is divided into two compartments. The upper compartment contains of circuit
breakers, control relays and supervising components and the operator can open the door at any
time.
All power components are located in the lower compartment. The incoming power is connected
to the main circuit breaker (Q7). Starter box for the Canadian market have the connection
terminals on the upper side of the main switch. The lower door is mechanically interlocked with
the main circuit breaker and can only be opened with the switch in off position.
As soon as the power is connected to the box, the pilot lamp (H53) indicates that power is on.
The digital volt meter (P12) shows the actual line voltage.
A phase sequence relay (K26) is incorporated in the main incoming circuit. The relay supervises
the three incoming phases with respect to right phase sequence. If wrong sequence will be
connected the relay will not be activated. No voltage will run to the star-delta starter's control
circuit and motor can not start (or run). A pilot lamp (H35) will indicate at the panel.
Note: The out going cables from cabinet to the motor will not be phase sequence protected by
the relay. These cables will normally be installed at the Atlas Copco workshop and the
circuit/rotation direction will be tested before delivery.
Before start, check the hydraulic oil level and check houses/fittings.
At first start, after switching main circuit breaker on, you first have to reset the emergency stop
relay (K128) and the supervision relay (K11) by pressing the switch S4 at the panel.
To reduce the start current of the motor, a star-delta starter has been introduced in the main
circuit of the motor.
When the start button (S1) is pressed the contactor (K61) and contactor (K61Y) is activated.
After a pre-set time at time delay relay (T61), i.e. -the motor has reached almost full speed- the
contactor (K61Y) opens and (K61D) closes. The motor now will run in Delta mode. The actual
motor current can be read from the digital A-meter (P13).
The motor is protected from short circuit by the main circuit breaker (Q7). For supervising the
motor temperature there are two types of thermistors mounted in the motor windings.
The temperature/resistance in the two channels are evaluated in the thermistor relay (K25).
First channel is used for warning signal. When released (130C) a pilot lamp (H37) will be turned
on at the front panel.
Second channel is used for stop, when motor is overheated (155C).
The relay contacts will automatically be restored when temperature is returned to normal.
10
___________________________________________________________________________
The motor is stopped either by pressing the stop button or by any of the emergency stops
trough relay (K128), or safe edge bar (K27) or by any of the supervision functions through relay
(K28). The contactors (K61 & K61D) will open, and the motor stops.
The control circuit for the star-delta starter is 110VAC from the transformer (T16), protected -
primary-by circuit breaker (F18), secondary by circuit breaker (F68).
The control voltage (110V) for indication lamps will be delivered from transformer (T11),
protected, primary by circuit breaker (F6).
The control voltage (24VDC) will also be delivered from the transformer (T11) and trough power
supply (U2) with build in overload protection. It is mainly used for external circuits such as
Emergency stop (S3), hydraulic tank level sensor (S5), temp sensor (S6) etc.
Warning!
If circuit breaker (F6) is on, main voltage is applied at the transformer's primary windings
despite of the fact that the main isolator is in off position!
