Brushless DC Motor (BLDC)

A brushless DC motor uses electronic commutation instead of mechanical commutation to generate a rotating magnetic field. It has an inrunner or outrunner design and generates electromotive force through three phases powered by an electronic speed controller using pulse-width modulation signals. Stepper motors are also discussed, including variable reluctance and hybrid stepper types that use windings and teeth on the rotor and stator to rotate in discrete steps controlled by the motor driver signals.
