Soccsksargen

Soccsksargen, formerly known as Central Mindanao,


is an administrative region of the Philippines,
designated as Region XII. Located in south-central
Mindanao, its name is an acronym that stands for
the region's four provinces and one highly
urbanized city.

SOCCSKSARGEN, officially designated as Region XII, is
an administrative region in the Philippines occupying
the southern-central section of Mindanao. It covers 4
provinces, namely, Cotabato, Sarangani, South
Cotabato, and Sultan Kudarat, as well as 1 highly
urbanized city (General Santos) and the independent
component city of Cotabato. The regional center is the
City of Koronadal.

these figures, the population density is computed at
215 inhabitants per square kilometer or 557

SOCCSKSARGEN is bordered,
clockwise from the Northeast, by
Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, the
Sarangani Strait, Sarangani Bay,
Celebes Sea, Moro Gulf, and the
Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in
Muslim Mindanao.

Sultan Kudarat, officially the Province of
Sulta pooon Kudarat, is a province in the
Philippines located in the Soccsksargen
region in Mindanao. Its capital is Isulan
and the commercial center is Tacurong.

BALOT ISLAND
Balut Island, also known as Malulong, is a
potentially active volcanic island south of
the tip of Davao Occidental province in
the Mindanao region, southern
Philippines. At the center of the island is
Balut Volcano, a fumarolic volcano with
no historical eruptions.
Balut Island, so named because of its egg-
shaped form, is part of the Paril-Sangay
Marine Protected Area. With turquoise
waters fronting Balut Island's stretches of
white sand beachfront, swimming and
sunbathing are all the more fun as big
waves dash towards the coastlines.
Lake Buluan
Lake Buluan is a lake located in the
island of Mindanao in the Philippines.
With an estimated surface area of , it is
the third largest lake in Mindanao, after

officially the Province of South Cotabato, is
a province in the Philippines located in the
Soccsksargen region in Mindanao. Its
capital is Koronadal, and it borders Sultan
Kudarat to the north and west, Sarangani to
the south and northeast, and Davao del Sur
to the far northeast.
1.LAKE HOLON
Lake Holon is one of
the top South Cotabato
tourist spots. It is
nestled on Mt
Melibengoy,
a dead volcano.

Millan, a multi-awarded Mindanaoan
artist, and sculptor. Dominating the
monument is a 60 feet-high Tboli string
instrument called Hegalong. Rising to
more than 2293 meters above sea level,
Mt Matutum is one of the prominent
hiking South Cotabato tourist spots.
Located in the municipality of Tupi, it
is a dormant volcano covered with lush
forests.
These host endangered flora and fauna
species including the critically
endangered Philippine Eagle. For the
indigenous inhabitants, the mountain
is sacred and precious, thus, they
have been defending it from
commercial aggression for centuries.
4.TUPI TARSIER SANCTUARY
If you think you can only find the
iconic tarsier in Bohol, think again.
They also have it in South Cotabato.
Unfortunately, it’s an endangered
species due to deforestation and
illegal hunting.

Thus, the local authorities put up a


sanctuary to protect them.
Situated at the foot of Mt
Matutum, the sanctuary is where
you can see the tarsier up close
and learn their usual behavior.
5. LAKE SEBU
Lake Sebu is now one of the
recognized eco-tourism spots in
South Cotabato. The Department of
Tourism has also been
featuring it in its tourism
campaigns.
All in all, there are three lakes fed
by several rivers. The indigenous
T’boli and Ubo tribes have been
living around the lakes since time
immemorial. You’ll learn a lot
about their rich culture when
you come here.
6.SEVEN FALLS OF SEBU
Nestled in the scenic highlands, the
seven falls of Lake Sebu are
breathtaking wonders to see. The
massive waters feeding the seven falls
actually come from Lake
Sebu itself.
When combined, Lake Sebu Falls
are among the highest in the
Philippines. Want to know the
interesting part? You can glimpse
these waterfalls by riding a zip
line that starts at waterfall one.
7. SOUTH COTABATO CCOMMUNITY
MUSEUM
To learn more about the culture and
history of the province,
check out South Cotabato Community
Museum. It houses various historical
and cultural artifacts, and metal wares,
including technological materials from
the early 1900s.
It also contains a stone carving of
Dr. Jose P. Rizal, the Philippine
national hero. All in all, the
museum has almost 1000
collections.
8. SIOK FALLS
If you want to challenge yourself
for a daring thrill and
adventure, test your limits to
Siok Falls. It has multiple layers
and you can see all of them in
one visit.
Many local adventurers love
to come here because of its
proximity from Koronadal
City. It is indeed a rustic
escape from the hustles and
bustles of daily life.
9. GENSAN CITY FISH PORT
General Santos City is the Tuna Capital
of the Philippines. The tuna industry is
also one of the main livelihoods of the
locals and the province exports tuna to
different countries. Visiting Gensan
City Fish Port will help you know more
and understand about the fishing
community. You’ll also catch sight of
live tuna and who knows, the local
fishermen might encourage you to
carry one.
10. LANG DULAY TNALAK WEAVING CENTER
If you know Apo Whang od of Kalinga,
South Cotabato also has their own
version in the persona of Lang Dulay.
But instead of tattooing, she weaves
exquisite designs, showcasing the
creativity of the T’boli tribes.
In 1988, she was conferred the
National Living Treasure Award.
Since age 12, she has been
weaving T’boli textiles portraying
intricate designs and patterns.
11. BAKNGEB RIVER CAVE
Bakngeb River Cave is one of the newly-
discovered South Cotabato tourist spots.
It is a subterranean river with wide pools
and crystal-clear waters. Inside, you’ll
find stunning limestone rock formations
similar to those found in Puerto Princesa
Underground River. Numerous bats also
inhabit the cave, indicating its rich
biodiversity and pristine condition. To
explore it, you’ll ride a raft or go water
tubing.
12. T'BOLI HOMESTAY
T’boli Homestay will give you a

T’boli indigenous groups. The
homestay is known for its

locally-available materials.

13. TAAL FALLS
Cascading like a huge bridal veil,
Taal Falls is considered one of the
highest cascades in the province. It
measures more than 200 feet high
amidst green foliage.
Like drizzles falling from the
heavens, Taal Falls generates
mists that will surely blow you
away. Because it has a shallow
pool, you can try standing on its
base while the falling waters give
you a rejuvenating massage.
14. SEBUL FARM
Sebul Farm showcases sustainable farming
with modern techniques and facilities. It
serves as a learning site of the Agricultural
Training Institute (ATI). It produces various
types of crops such as herbs including flocks
and poultry grown the natural way.

15. HIDAK FALLS
Hidak Falls is one of the off-beaten South
Cotabato tourist spots. It lies in the forested
foothills of T’boli town where various flora and
fauna species thrive. It has multiple layers and the
highest of which measures around 40 meters.
Hidak Falls carved a wide and deep
pool with icy-cold and crystal-clear
waters. Locals love coming especially
children to enjoy the view and have a
rejuvenating swim. Because it is less visited, it
remains pristine, a perfect respite for nature
lovers and adventurers.
North Cotabato officially the Province of
Cotabato, is a landlocked province in the
Philippines located in the Soccsksargen
region in Mindanao. Its capital is the city
of Kidapawan. Some of its barangays are
under the jurisdiction of the nearby
Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.
1. ASIK-ASIK FALLS
Asik-Asik Falls is among the top Cotabato
tourist spots. This breathtaking beauty lies in
the slopes of Mt Ragang. What makes the falls
unique is the fact that there is no river or
stream above it. One could just wonder
where the waters are coming from. Asik-Asik
falls cascades like a wide curtain amidst
green foliage towards a flowing river. Like
heavenly drizzles, the falls has this effect of
giving instant relief to people coming here.
The highest of these falls is around 25 meters.
2. LAKE AGCO
Touted as the Eden of Kidapawan
City, Lake Agco is a natural lake of
boiling water pools surrounded with
lush forests. It sits on elevation of
1,250 meters above sea level. There
are man-made pools nearby where
you can enjoy thermal waters taken
from the hot springs. Aside from
sightseeing, a favorite activity here is
mud-masking using mud taken from
the lake.
3. DADAY FALLS
With a towering height of more than
400 feet, Daday Falls is one of the
highest cascades in Cotabato. It roars
down the face of a massive cliff towards
a deep pool.
Huge boulders surround the
pool, giving it a dramatic view.
Daday Falls pristine waters
emanate from dense forests
upstream. The river from the
falls leads to Asik-Asik Falls.
4. LAKE BARANIBUD
Lake Baranibud is one of the least
known Cotabato tourist spots.
That’s because it lies deep in the
remote forests that can only be
accessed via hours of hiking. It is
believed that the overflow of the
lake feeds Daday Falls.
Trekking to the lake will lead
you into old-growth
rainforests, one of the last
remaining in Mindanao.
5. KAPATI FALLS
Kapati Falls is one of the newly-
discovered Cotabato tourist
spots. Its raging waters carved a
beautiful pool where you can
plunge and have a rejuvenating
swim. Enjoy sitting in front of it
as the caressing mists blow your
worries away. It has this
enchanting and healing effect.
6. MT APO
Standing at 2,956 meters above sea
level, Mt Apo is the king of
Philippine mountains. It also hosts
the iconic yet critically- endangered
Philippine Monkey- Eating Eagle
and other incredible wildlife species.
Trekking to the summit will lead you
into steamy hot springs, mossy
forests, a lakes, rivers, and steep
trails. All these will make up for an
adventure of a lifetime.
8. TAUSUVAN FALLS
Tausuvan Falls is among the most
popular Cotabato tourist spots due to its
accessibility and proximity. It has a
height of around 30 meters with a
beautiful catch basin. The waters are icy-
cold and crystal-clear to give you an
invigorating experience. There have been
some improvements made to ensure the
convenience of visitors coming here.
7. TAMONTAKA CHURCH
Although Cotabato City is predominantly
Muslim, there is also a significant Catholic
population. The historic Tamontaka
Church serves as their worship place.
It was built in 1872 by the Spaniards and
since then, has served as a symbol of the
peaceful co-existence between the
Muslims and Christians. In 2004, it was
declared a National Historical Landmark.
9. LAKE VANEDO
You will pass by Lake Venedo
when trekking to Mt Apo
from Cotabato. It also offers an
imposing view of the mountain.
There are different local folklores
about the lake. According to the
indigenous inhabitants, unseen
deities and spirits inhabit the
lake.
Thus, a ritual is performed
when visiting it to appease
these spirits and prevent
untoward incidents.
10. Koong Campsite
Koong Campsite is the last campsite you’ll come
across by when trekking to Mt Apo. After this,
you’ll reach Lake Venedo. Koong Campsite is one
of the most preserved Cotabato tourist spots.
