Observation-Sheet-5 JIM

The document describes a classroom observation of a Grade 7 mathematics class in Macabebe High School. The observer notes that the class had a collaborative atmosphere, as the teacher involved students by asking questions and students participated by answering. The lesson connected integers to real-life examples like sports scores and banking. The teaching approach was constructivist by connecting to students' past experiences and allowing them to construct new meanings from the lesson.

Teacher-centered Student-centered

Did teacher discuss all the time? Were students involved in the teaching-
learning process? How? Or were they mere
passive recipients of instruction?

The student does some participation on the

class by answering the question that have
been made by the teacher.

Was the emphasis mastery for the lesson for Was the emphasis the students’ application of
the test? Prove. the lesson in real life? Give proofs.

The student can apply it in real life, like for

example when players' scores in sporting
events such as golf, football, and hockey, as
well as movie or song ratings, are all expressed
as integers. In banks, credits and debits are
shown as positive and negative numbers,
accordingly. Integers serve as a data type that
is frequently used in computer programming.

Was class atmosphere competitive? Why? Was class atmosphere collaborative? Why?

Yes, there’s a atmosphere collaborative

because the teacher discuss the topic and the
student understand it and they did some
participation which may allow them to make
an impact on collaborative of the teacher and
student, in this matter the teacher always sure
that the students understand the lesson
carefully, and additional the student prefer to
have brief discussion to understand the lesson
very well and in this process they can make a
participation or collaboration on the class.

Did the teacher focus only on the Did teacher connect lesson to other
discipline/subject? disciplines/subjects?

Yes, the teacher connects his lesson in the way

of applying it on daily lives, in this process the
teacher may assure that the lesson can be
apply in a proper way especially the lesson is
about integers which may include about
numbers.

What teaching-learning practice show the teaching approach was:

a) Constructivist-connected to past experiences of learners; learners constructed new
lesson meanings.
The Teacher provide some activity to the student to have a collaboration within the
teacher and the student.

b) Inquiry-based
The Learners answered the question which is provided by the teacher after she make a
discussion to the class, in this process the teacher can find out if the student can
understand the lesson very well.

c) Developmentally appropriate –learning activities fit the developmental stage of children

The teacher takes his laptop to present his lesson to his class, in this process she can get
the attention of his class, by taking some time on discussing the lesson, the learners
easily understand the lesson by making some participation on the class.

d) Reflective- No learner was excluded, teacher taught everybody.

The resource teacher Maam Graciela make some question activity to find out that all the
student can make some participation on the class.

e) Inclusive
The teacher had included in the discussion several other important matters that relays
on the lesson which is necessary to understand the certain topic.

f) collaborative- Students worked together

The collaborative of all the student is too far on the discussion, because the answer
individually to their activity that is provided by their teacher, there’s no any group
activity happened on the discussion.

g) integrative- lesson was multidisciplinary- e.g. In Science, Math concepts were taught

The lesson only focused on the topic which is the integers but the teacher includes some
values matters on the discussion which may help the student to understand the lesson
on how they can apply in on daily lives.

MY ANALYSIS

1. Based on your observations, as a whole was instruction teacher-centered or student-

centered?
The whole lesson is all about the student centered because it tackles some collaboration
of teacher and student, as an additional the teacher makes some activity to the student
which may refer to participation of the students.

2. Where there instances when the students could have been involved in class proceedings
but were not? Give examples/s.

There’s a lot of instances which may the student would not be involved in the class,
there is some student who take class and also work in one at a time, some are just
bored and don’t have the attention on lesson and there’s a lot more instances which
may take them into absence of their mind on the discussion.

3. What are possible consequences of teaching purely subject matter for mastery and for
the test?

The possible consequences that may be tackled is the learning process of the student
can be limited and this can affect the learning outcome of the learners on the lesson.

4. If you were to reteach the class, would you be teacher-centered or student-centered?

Why?

Well based on the class that I observe, the student-centered is effective and the learners
understand the lesson, so it means I may use the same way of teaching process on class.

5. If you abide by the pedagogical approaches that the k-12 law states, will you be more
teacher-centered or student-centered in approach? Explain your answer.

There’s only two choices on selecting a effective teaching process on the learners, in this
way the both teaching process is I already experience and observe to my class, and if
take the pedagogical approaches that the K-12 law states, it may be effective if I used
student-centered because this may conduct the student to learn by their own, this can
enhance their growth and to make a self-understanding on the lesson that they will
tackle.
MY REFECTIONS

Between teacher-centered and student -centered approach, the latter must be more
pedagogically sound because even RA 10533, the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013,
mandates it for K-12. Write your reflections about it. Or is it better to use both approaches.

The Teacher-centered and student-centered have huge difference on their approach,

because teacher- centered is more about typically refers to learning situations in which the
teacher asserts control over the material that students study and the ways in which they
study when, where, how, and at what pace they learn it and then the student-centered is
more about learning environments are highly tuned in to students' individual needs.
Including a student's voice in the co-creation of a learning plan or pathway. Students who
have this voice demonstrate an increased level of interest and ownership of their learning.
Well based on my observation the learners include some participation the class which is
made by the teacher to know if the learners understand the certain topic which is the
integers, and the good thing in here is the teacher can analyze the needs of the certain
student, that’s why my resource teacher make some brief explanation the class that may
relay into their mind.
MY LEARNING PORTFOLIO

With a graphic organizer, present the pedagogical approaches to the K-12 Curriculum as stated
in RA 10533. Give the main features of each approach

A student-centered approach is very interactive. Research on at least 3 teaching-learning

activities/techniques that can be used at the beginning or end of a lesson. Place them here.

Crossword puzzle
- In this process the learners can exercise their mind on answering some crossword
puzzle. Some teacher includes this on some test and examination to have some
enjoyment even do the learners are answering their test and examination.
Debate
- Having a debate on a class can help the learners to boost their critical thinking on the
way of doing some thinking process to survive the certain debate topic, in this process
the learners are assign to defend their side to win the debate.

Ice Breakers
- Including an ice breaker before opening a topic can help the teacher to get the
attention of the learners, in this process you can boost their confidence and for sure all
of them are excited to know the topic of the lesson by doing an ice breaker.
