Yes, you have a sore throat! What home remedy do you
usually use as remedy for sore throat?
The common home remedy for sore throat is gargling with
warm salt solution. It helps soothe a sore throat and
break down secretions. It is also known to help kill bacteria
in the throat.
Do you know how to prepare it? How do we prepare a salt
solution?
A salt solution is prepared by dissolving salt in water.
What does the salt solution comprise of?
Salt solution is comprised of salt and water.

The solute is the substance that is being dissolved, while
the solvent is the dissolving medium.
How are solutions formed?
Solutions can be formed with many different types and
forms of solutes and solvents.

What makes up a solution? What are the parts of a
solution?
1. Solute is the substance that is being dissolved. In the
example above, the sugar is the solute.
2. Solvent is the substance that dissolves the other
substance. In the example above, the water is the
solvent.
The solvent is the chemical that is present in the
greatest amount and, therefore, is the substance in which
each of the remaining chemicals are distributed or
dissolved. A solute is a chemical that present in a lesser
amount, relative to the solvent, and must be uniformly-
distributed throughout the solution.

What is the universal solvent?
Water is called the "universal solvent" because it
dissolves more substances than any other liquid.
Key difference between solution and solvent
1. Solute can be defined as the substance that gets
dissolved by the solvent in a solution, while the
substance that dissolves the solute is called as
the solvent. Therefore the solute is present in the
lesser amount than the solvent.
2. Solute can be found in solid, liquid or gaseous state,
while the solvent is mainly found in the liquid state,
but can be solid or in the gaseous state as well.
An aqueous solution [ei·kwee·uhs] is water that contains
one or more dissolved substances.
What are some examples of aqueous solution?
Cola, saltwater, rain, and salt solutions are examples of
aqueous solutions.
“Examples of solutions that are not aqueous solutions
include any liquid that does not contain water. Vegetable
oil, acetone, carbon tetrachloride, and solutions made
using these solvents are not aqueous solutions. They are
referred to as non-aqueous solution. – When a solute is
dissolved in a solvent other than water, it is called a
