II. Course Description

This course deals with the comparative analysis of the different tools, strategies,
methods, and approaches of rural and urban development in the Philippines in relation to
the current thrust of the government, problems and issues related to Philippine community
life and global perspective.

III. Course Objectives

A. General Objective
To acquire a comprehensive view about the nature and dynamism of rural
and urban communities and the interactions necessary for effective change
and development.

B. Specific Objectives

At the end of the course, the students should be able to:


1. Gain invaluable insights as to the interrelations, common and differing
characteristics of rural and urban societies.
2. Analyze some standardized social interactions and institutions found in rural
and urban communities and their impact on community development.
3. Attain awareness and sensitivity to problems and issues relative to
community development.
4. Propose relevant and effective strategies/ approaches that can help improve
the rural and urban communities; and
5. Encourage students to initiate and actively participate in development
programs to help bring about socio-economic reforms for the betterment of
life.
