My First Drag Race

As I walked over to my car put my helmet over my face, I pulled it over my ears making a
weird squeaky noise like when you squeeze a rubber duck in the bathtub as a little kid. I
could not hear much with the helmet on, Other than my team telling me about the car. My
heart was racing as I opened the door, a loud clank sounded as I hit my helmet on the roll
cage. I was sweating like a dog in the oversized leather suit. My ears were ringing as the cars
revved their engines. I looked at the competition in the other car as he looked at me.

I started to feel nervous because he looked as if he had done this a million times before. The
smell of fuel filled the air, I was ready this is it; this is what I have trained for. As the light
changed, I slammed my foot on the accelerator then there was a immense screech as the
cars raced down the track. I got thrown back into my seat by the inertia! He was ahead of
me, I needed to win this for not only my team, but to show I’m the best of the best.

What felt like hours was only a couple of seconds. I pushed hard on my accelerator, and I
got flung back into my seat. I looked down at my speedometer and I was going 231
kilometres an hour! I slowly was catching up to him, pushing harder and harder on the
accelerator. 240! 245! 250 KPH!

I had finally done it I passed him, but I needed to slow down because I pushed the car to its
limit. But I could not because he was still at least ten meters away from me. I was starting to
overheat in the leather suit and so was the car as I looked in my mirrors, I could not see the
other racer until he passed me again! I knew I should not have slowed down.

My team told me to stop because the finish line was only ten meters away, and if I tried to
keep going my engine would explode! I was so annoyed at myself, but I turned off my
communication. I was not going to stop, my legs were aching but I couldn’t give up I
slammed on my accelerator I zoomed down the track, as I was flying down the track when I
zoomed over the finish line. It was all over, all I could do is wait, it was a photo finish!

A loud buzz called as the judges were announcing the winner, they called out “The winner
is.” you could have heard a pen drop when they announced, “Ezekiel Taylor with a time of
45.12 seconds!” I jumped in excitement I had just won my first race. I threw my helmet
above the crowds, and when I looked up into the area where my team was, they also could
not believe it. I walked over to the other racer and yelled out to him good race. He just
rolled his eyes and walked off.
