General Description
Historical development of East African Drama; the main/dominant ideas in East African
Drama; pioneer playwrights; contemporary playwrights; the main influences on East African
Drama; Critical perspective on East African Drama.
Item Description
Specific objectives of the course The course has the following objectives:
1. To introduce students to the general
development of East African Drama from
pioneer writers to the contemporary period
2. To analyse selected texts from Uganda,
Tanzania, Kenya, South Sudan, Rwanda and
Burundi
3. To identify and analyse the main/dominant
ideas in East African Drama
4. To identify and critique the main influences –
in style and perspective – on East African
Drama
