DIRECTIONS: Watch the following video: Aerobic Vs Anaerobic Respiration. Be sure to read the
paragraph and refer to your notes, then answer the questions below.
Autotrophs use photosynthesis to convert light energy from the sun into chemical energy,
which is stored as glucose and other organic compounds. Both autotrophs and heterotrophs
depend upon this glucose to power cellular activities. The difference is that plants make their
own glucose and humans have to eat food that already contains glucose.

Cellular respiration, which happens in our cells, breaks down the glucose we eat and the
oxygen that we breathe in. It produces the carbon dioxide we breathe out and the water that
we urinate out. It also produces the energy that our body then releases and stores in molecules
known as Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP). The processes in cellular respiration can have aerobic
and anaerobic conditions. The energy stored in ATP molecules is used to power an organism’s
life activities such as blood and oxygen circulation, excretion, movement, and other critical
functions of your body.

below.

The balloons began to expand due to the release of the carbon dioxide. Carbo dioxide is

sucrose is the reactant and carbon dioxide and ethanol are th products.

Task 3 - Yeast Fermentation Lab
For this lab, you will observe how matter and
energy flow in both anaerobic conditions and
aerobic conditions of cellular respiration and how
temperature affects cellular respiration. As the
temperature increases, the rate of cellular
respiration increases. Yeast works better in
warmer conditions. However if the temperature is
too high, the yeast will not behave properly and
this will decrease how fast cellular respiration
happens.
MATERIALS: PROCEDURE:
● Water 1. Empty the contents of the yeast packet into the plastic bottle.
