ABOUT SMT. KAMALABEN GAMBHIRCHAND SHAH LAW SCHOOL


Seva Mandal Education Society‘s Smt. Kamalaben Gambhirchand Shah


Law School was constituted in the year 2008. The Institute is affiliated to
SNDT University. Having strong centric goals, since inception, the
Institute is focused to achieve women autonomy by imparting deep
knowledge of Law and good value system. Year after year the Institute has
climbed the ladder of success.Recently our Institute under "Unnati
Project" has introduced free add on courses pertaining to Cyber Security
and Forensics, to the students.

Our parent body is Seva Mandal Education Society.

With the vision of “Empowerment of Women through Quality Education”


the foundation of Seva Mandal Education Society, was laid in 1957, with a
mere strength of 7 students. Today SMES is successfully imparting
qualitative education to more than 7000 women students, on campus,
offering a variety of programs under its umbrella, ranging from Junior
College, Certificate and Diploma programs, Undergraduate Degree
programs and Post Graduate Degree in faculties of Law, Arts, Commerce,
Home Science, Computer Applications, Management, Mass Media and
Nursing.

Legal profession requires the skill of


analyses, comparison and research. Our
motto is to help enable those aiming for
a successful legal career by providing
them the opportunity to become well
equipped with the requisites and general
ethics applicable in the practical field of
Law.

We at Smt. Kamalaben Gambhirchand Shah Law School have been successfully


organising National Moot Court Competitions for past 6 years. With the same
enthusiasm we take pride in once again welcoming all eligible students to this
7th National Moot Court Competition 2023. We look forward for your
participation and support.
1. DATE, VENUE & LANGUAGE OF THE COMPETITION:

The date for the Competition is 18th March, 2023 and 19th
March, 2023.
The Venue of the Competition is :-

Smt. K.G. Shah Law School, Room No. 601, 6th Floor,
Smt. Parmeshwari Devi Gordhandas Garodia Educational
Complex, 338, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Rd, Matunga East, Mumbai,
Maharashtra 400019

The language of the competition shall be English.

2. DRESS CODE:
The dress code Black and White formals for Males &
Black and White western / Indian formals for Females.
Advocate’s gown and white band are prohibited.
3. ELIGIBILITY:
Bona-fide students pursuing Law Degree Course under 3
years or 5 years integrated course during the academic year
2022-2023 from any Institute recognized by Bar Council of
India, are eligible to participate.
The students must be deputed by their respective colleges.

4. TEAM COMPOSITION:
Each participating college/ university/ Law School may send
only one team.
Each team shall consist of maximum 2 (two) members. Both
members shall present in the capacity as Mooter. This number
cannot be modified under any circumstances.
Each team will be provided with a unique team code by draw
of lots to be held on 18th March, 2023.
5. REGISTRATION:

Participants must note that only 20 teams will be


registered to participate for the competition. The entry
will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve (FIFO) basis.

The Registration Form is attached herewith. The


participants shall register their entries by emailing the
duly filled and scanned Registration Form on or before,
28th February, 2023.

The registration fees is Rs. 3000/- per team. Payable to


College Account (Please note those who wish to seek
accommodation will be charged Rs. 4000/- in addition
to the Registration fees i.e. those who wish to take
accommodation must pay Rs. 4000/- separately for
given accounts details .
The first 20 teams shall be receiving a confirmation mail
on their selection for participation.

The registration fees (mandatory) and the


accommodation sum (optional) shall be payable online
in favor of Smt. K.G. SHAH LAW SCHOOL. (The
payment details is attached with the registration link
attached below.)

No change in the names of participants shall be


permitted after the receipt of the Registration Form.
Any request made after submission shall be at the sole
discretion of the Organizers.
5) ACCOMMODATION:

The college shall not provide any travelling expenses to


the Participants. However, breakfast, lunch and tea
shall be provided to all the participants on Date of
Competition

Participants requiring accommodation should fill the


‘Travel Plan’ provided with the Registration Form
attached herewith.

The Organizers will provide lodging and boarding


facilities to participants only from 17th March, 2023
(check in at 12:00 noon) to 19th March, 2023 (check out
at 8:00 a.m.).

Food (including Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner) will not be


made available for the 17th of March, 2023.
If participants wish to stay on the night of 19th March,
2023, may do so at their own costs. The Institute and
the Organizing Committee will not be responsible in
any manner in any such case.

Separate accommodation shall be provided for male


and female participants.

An additional fees of Rs. 4000/- shall be payable by the


participants requiring accommodation. This amount is
inclusive of the stay, all meals and transport to and
from the place of accommodation and venue of
competition.

Any misconduct or misbehavior of any participant


during the course of accommodation shall be strictly
dealt with and may lead to disqualification. In any such
case the decision of the Organizing committee shall be
final and binding.
6. COMPETITION ROUNDS:
There shall broadly be three rounds of the competition viz
1. Preliminary rounds;
2. Semi-final round;
3. Final round

Candidates will be judged on the basis of their knowledge of


laws as applicable, persuasiveness, logic and reasoning,
ingenuity, clarity, and articulation skills.

•PRELIMINARY ROUND

1. The preliminary rounds will be held on Friday, 18th February,


2023. All the teams shall report to the college at 08:00 a.m.
The Program schedule will be send to the enrolling teams a
week prior to the Date of Competition.

2. The Preliminary round shall take place simultaneously in two


spaces.
3. The opposing teams and the exact venue allotted to the
team shall be decided by draw of lots at the end of the
Inauguration session.

4. The time provided to each session as between the


Petitioner’s side and the Respondent’s side is maximum
30 minutes. Each team will be provided 15 minutes to
brief their respective sides. The teams must reserve some
time for Rebuttal and sur rebuttal, as the case may be.
However, the time so utilized by the teams for Rebuttal
and sur rebuttal, as the case may be, shall not exceed the
respective time slot allotted to each team i.e. 15 minutes.
Any extension or relaxation of time may be allowed only
with the approval of the Presiding Judge of the session.
Any such relaxation would invite deduction in score. The
decision of the Organising team and the Session Judge, in
any such case, shall be final and binding.

5. Ten teams scoring highest in the Preliminary round


will qualify for the Semi-Final Round.
• SEMI-FINAL ROUND:

1. The teams qualifying for the semi-finals shall be


declared on Saturday, 18th March, 2023 after the
preliminary round. The Semi-Final Round will be held
on 19th March, 2023 at 8.00 a.m. onwards.

2. The sides (Appellant/ Respondent) for the Semi-Finals


will be decided by a draw of lots which will be conducted
after the results of the preliminary round are declared.

3. The time provided to each session as between the


Petitioner’s side and the Respondent’s side is maximum 30
minutes. Each team will be provided 15 minutes to brief
their respective sides. The teams must reserve some time
for Rebuttal and sur rebuttal, as the case may be. However,
the time so utilized by the teams for Rebuttal and sur rebuttal,
as the case may be, shall not exceed the respective time slot
aallotted to each team i.e. 15 minutes. Any extension or
relaxation of time may be allowed only with the approval of
the Presiding Judge of the session. Any such relaxation would
invite deduction in score. The decision of the Organising
team and the Session Judge, in any such case, shall be final
and binding.

4. 6 teams scoring highest shall qualify for the Final round.


• FINAL ROUND:

1. One team from every courtroom, securing highest


marks in the semi-final round shall qualify for the
Final round. The team codes of the teams qualifying
for the Final round shall be declared immediately after
the results of the semi-final rounds

2. The Final round will be held on Saturday, 18thMarch,


2023.

3. The teams appearing for the Petitioner and the


Respondent shall be decided by a draw of lots which will
be conducted immediately after the results of the Semi
Final Round are declared.
4. The time provided to each session as between the
Petitioner’s side and the Respondent’s side is maximum 40
minutes. Each team will be provided 20 minutes to brief
their respective sides. The teams must reserve some time
for Rebuttal and sur rebuttal, as the case may be. However,
the time so utilized by the teams for Rebuttal and sur
rebuttal, as the case may be, shall not exceed the respective
time slot allotted to each team i.e. 20 minutes. Any
extension or relaxation of time may be allowed only with
the approval of the Presiding Judge of the session. Any such
relaxation would invite deduction in score. The decision of
the Organising team and the Session Judge, in any such
case, shall be final and binding.
7. WRITTEN SUBMISSIONS/MEMORIALS:

The Written Submissions shall be on behalf of the


Petitioner as also the Respondent.

All selected teams are required to submit Written


Memorials on or before 10th March, 2023. Delay in
submission will invite deduction in marks. The
decision of the organisers in this regard shall be final
and binding.

Teams must note that the Written Memorials shall


carry 50 marks.

The Memorial Marks shall be added into the


cumulative total marks of both the Preliminary
round.
• The format for the written submissions is as follows:

Cover page - Blue for the Petitioner and Red for the
Respondent. The Cover page shall contain the Title of the
case as also the side, (Petitioner/ Respondent) in bold.
Font - Times New Roman, 12. (10 for footnotes)
Line spacing - 1.5. for body and 1.0 for footnotes.
Page Size – A4 Size.
Margin – 2.54 cm from all sides
Page Borders – Double lined page border for all pages
Page Number – Page Numbers shall be mentioned at the
bottom of the page
Header – Header of all the pages must mention-

(Please note : No team is permitted to disclose the name of the


students participating in the Competition at any time during
the tenure of the Competition. Any such disclosure/ attempt to
disclose made in any form or manner shall be liable to direct
disqualification. The decision of the Organizers shall be final
and binding in any such case)
Participants are expected to submit only the soft copies of the
written submissions/memorials (pdf format only) latest by
Tuesday, 28th February, 2023.
The soft copies shall be emailed to :-

The subject of the mail shall be titled as follows;
“Written Submissions - Name of College/Institution”
Please note that it is not necessary to submit hard copies of
the written submissions prior to the competition. However,
teams are required to carry along with them, 6 copies of the
written submissions on the date of the competition.

General Rules regarding the rounds:


The Participants are permitted to carry with themselves all
case laws, bare acts and authorities which they intend to refer
along with their own copies of memorials during competition.
During the course of oral submissions, The Participants will
not be permitted to make any audio/visual representation nor
will they be allowed to use personal computers, laptops and
any other technical or mechanical device.
9. MISCELLANEOUS:

Decisions of the judges shall be final and binding.

Decisions regarding interpretation of any of the rules as


applicable herein shall be taken by the organizers. This
decision shall be final and binding on the Participants.

In case of any queries or clarifications in respect of the


competition, the teams may send an email to
KGSHAH7MCC@gmail.com. However, no emails asking
for clarifications would be entertained after 5th
February, 2023.

Rules should be strictly adhered to. Any deviation


thereof can attract disqualification.

Teams shall not be allowed to observe the examinations


of any other teams. Scouting is strictly prohibited and
shall result in disqualification.
The organizers reserve the right to take appropriate
action for any unethical, unprofessional or immoral
conduct.

All the participants are expected to maintain the decorum


of the court throughout the competition and are expected
to maintain their conduct in a manner befitting the legal
profession.

The organizers will resolve any contingencies that may


arise and will be final arbiters regarding any
doubts/grievances.

Any kind of reference to the identity of the participants or


of their respective institutes can attract disqualification of
that participant/team.

Participants must carry their current College ID-cards


along with them to the competition.

Video recording or taking photographs during trial is


strictly prohibited.

If there arises any situation which is not contemplated


by any of the abovementioned rules, the organizers’
decision on the same shall be final and binding.

The college reserves the right to vary, alter, modify or


repeal any of the above rules, which may be without
prior notification, if so required and as they may deem
appropriate.

Participants must report at the college on Friday 18th


March, 2023 at 8.00 p.m. sharp for the Orientation
ceremony.
