Intersubjectivity Philosophy Activities

This document contains a home-based activity sheet for a Philippine high school student. It includes questions about intersubjectivity that the student answered in 3-5 sentences each. The activity sheet explores how intersubjectivity relates to personal experiences of being treated as an object or subject. It also discusses how intersubjectivity could help address societal problems such as discrimination, victim blaming, poverty stigma, and the dismissal of psychological issues. The student provides thoughtful responses grounded in philosophical concepts of equality, respect, and understanding differences. The final part of the activity requires the student to differentiate the ideas of Confucius, Martin Buber, and Karol Wojtyla on columns and note where their views align

What I Have Learned

To verify the knowledge you gained in this lesson, let us situate the idea of intersubjectivity
in your own personal experiences and let us check whether its relevance in our lives.

Answer the following questions thoroughly. 3-5 sentences are enough.

1.Are there instances in your life when you feel you are treated as an object? Share some
experiences. How does it feel? Would you do the same treatment to others? Why?
Yes, I have experienced being treated as an object, especially when they merely require my
assistance and approach me in an effort to gain my favor and expedite their work. As a result, I am
upset and hurt. Despite the difficulties I'm facing, I wouldn't want to subject others to the same
suffering since then I wouldn't be any different from them. Instead of seeking vengeance, I'd rather do
what is right in God's eyes.
2.Give some personal experiences when you feel you are treated as a subject. How do you feel
when you are treated in that way? Is it lawful to do the same to others? Why?
When my friends talk to me politely and include me in their pleasant conversation, it is
legal. My friends are really welcoming to me. They always give me the courtesy I deserve
and treat me like a member of their family. When I need help, they are always at my side.
Despite the fact that we don't always interact or bond, they didn't forget about me. I feel
wonderful, unique, and fortunate. Because me is consistently kind to individuals and
genuinely care about their well-being, it is indeed legal to do the same to them. But if it
makes me appear terrible or like a criminal, it's illegal.

3. What do you think is the reason why people treat others as object
Because of their standard in life.

4. What do you have in mind when you treat others as subjects?

According to my personal perspective, the main reason I would treat others as subjects is self-
defense. Except for my family, I don't trust anyone readily. It is a technique for me to safeguard or
defend myself from a potential threat, particularly from strangers. It does not imply that either a
negative or positive mindset is required. It has no particular emotion.
5. Do you think that we can make a better world if we prioritize intersubjectivity
relationships over economic progress? Defend your answer.
Yes, when we applied it wisely. Because intersubjectivity is regarded as essential at all levels,
including the relational, epistemological, and even metaphysical. For instance, intersubjectivity is
claimed to contribute to the determination of propositional truth and to the so-called objectivity of
objects. Intersubjectivity has benefits and drawbacks, but it is up to us to decide how to use it to
create a better society.

Week 3: Performance Task # 3 Number of Points: __/25

What I Can Do: In our present society, we can notice all kinds of differences of
people in the world that may result to inequality, injustice, and all sorts of abuses. In order
to create a better world, we have to be sensitive about these things and respond in kind
manner. Below are societal problems which need solutions from intersubjectivity point of
view. Understand each statement and give concrete solutions. Use the ideas on
intersubjectivity elaborated by the philosophers we discussed. 3-5 sentences are enough.
1. Instead of showing mercy, many people make fun of persons with disabilities.
In this situation, we must persuade others that although God created each of us uniquely,
we are all equal. Every everyone has flaws in their own unique ways, and making fun of
someone with disabilities hurts not just the person with the disability but also all the
others who genuinely care about the person you are making fun of. Though you don't
murder the person you're making fun of since you don't know that person is suicidal, your
words have the power to kill them anyway.

2. Regarding rape issue, women are blamed because of the type of clothes they wear.
Every female has a right to have her own sense of style, hence I vehemently disagree with
this kind of notion. Rapists are always rapists; this way of thinking needs to end. Blaming
the clothing has little effect; instead, we should take responsibility for the incorrect
perceptions and attitudes we are teaching the next generation. Instead of teaching
individuals to despise clothing, we should instead teach them not to commit rapes.

3. Many say that poor people are poor because of their mentality.
I used to believe that people's lack of dreams and passion was the reason they were poor.
And as I've gotten older, I've altered my mind. I have witnessed my parents working
incredibly hard for us out of a strong desire to see us succeed. I have also witnessed other
individuals working extremely hard in pursuit of their own aspirations and objectives.
Despite this, we are still living in poverty. It is obvious that the system is the issue and not
the mentality. In order to create a strong foundation with the populace, which is equivalent
to creating aspirations and igniting passion, government needs make systemic changes.

4. Indigenous people have their own culture others do not understand but some people make fun of
them.
The indigenous people's culture defines them as such and serves as their identifier. A
person shouldn't be made fun of just because they are unique. We must learn to respect
others' identities and eliminate these kind of qualities from our own behavior. Since we are
all equal human beings, it is said that we should treat others with the same respect that we
treat ourselves.

5. Nowadays, some people think that psychological problems are just excuses people do to justify
their weaknesses.
Having a psychological problem is not an excuse to justify our weaknesses, it just means
that we are weak and we needed help of others. Not everyone is good at coping problems
and we must understand that not everyone is strong and brave enough to face a problem
or a situation. We need to respect those who has psychological problems because they
are the one who is mostvulnerable, we should understand and accept them because we
don't know what they've been through or experiencing.
