System checks & adjustments
Preparatory conditions
Engine at normal operating temperature.
Ignition system in good condition.
Air filter installed and in good condition.
Automatic transmission in 'P' or 'N'.
All auxiliary equipment, including air conditioning, switched OFF.

Idle speed 700±50 rpm Idle speed electronically controlled. No
adjustment possible. If idle speed not as
specified: Check for air leaks in intake system.
Carry out component and electrical tests.
CO level - at idle speed 0,5 % max. - at tail pipe CO level electronically controlled. No
adjustment possible. If CO level not as
specified: Check for air leaks in intake and
exhaust systems. Carry out component and
electrical tests.
Throttle initial position Not specified Throttle initial position set by manufacturer.
No adjustment possible.
Basic ignition timing 10 °/700±50 rpm - BTDC Bridge data link connector (DLC) terminals
TE1 and E1. Start engine and allow to idle.
Adjust by turning distributor.
Normal ignition timing 10 - 20 ° /700±50 rpm - BTDC
Firing order 1-3-4-2
Fuel pressure - system (vacuum OFF) 2,7 - 3,1 bar Connect pressure gauge between fuel supply
pipe and fuel filter union. Start engine and
allow to idle.
Fuel pressure - regulated (vacuum ON) 2,1 - 2,6 bar Connect pressure gauge between fuel supply
pipe and fuel filter union. Start engine and
allow to idle.
Fuel pressure - holding 1,5 bar Connect pressure gauge between fuel supply
pipe and fuel filter union. Start engine and
allow to idle.
Stop engine and check pressure reading after
5 minutes.
