The rewards of saving time and
safeguarding against contamination
of the cargo are substantial
– Money saved and an increase in goodwill
A standard Panamax tanker has the deck structure
below deck. This creates corners and blind spots which
are difficult to clean. Even after cleaning is completed,
you basically have a tanker for crude and dirty prod-
ucts, with the possibility to carry clean products.
However, our Panamaxes have turned the tables.
Our tank structure is placed on the deck leaving the
epoxy coated cargo tanks smooth and completely free
of obstacles. There are no blind spots or any pockets
for cargo residues to be trapped in. This makes the
tanks very easy to clean. The change from dirty to
clean products can be made in a considerably shorter
time than on a standard vessel, while minimizing the
risk of contamination. The tanks can thus be prepared
en route to the next load area with a minimum or no
loss of time.
Our Panamax is a product tanker ready to carry
clean as well as dirty products at short notice.
Flexibility when it comes to cargo grades is further
enhanced by a feature usually only found in clean-
product tankers – a corrugated centreline bulkhead in
the cargo tanks.
Additionally, the boiler capacity has been increased
for improved cargo heating and tank cleaning.
The Panamax tankers are fitted with a
more powerful main engine than normal
for this class of ship. The vessel is capable
to sail in ballast at 16 knots and loaded
passages at 15.5 knots. A faster ship saves
time, and time is money!
In this double hull tanker, all
tanks containing cargo, fuel
oil and contaminated water
have double hull protection
or void space between their
boundaries and the hull.
Cargo tanks are fitted with
corrugated center line and
transverse bulkheads.
The hull is
designed for a
long fatigue life
in worldwide
operation.
Soot contamination is a constant
problem when carrying clean cargoes
on board vessels fitted with a traditional
flue gas system. In order to avoid
this, the vessels are equipped
with both inert gas generator and
flue gas system. The combination is a
priceless tool when changing between
clean and dirty products.
If you look at the main particulars, these are true
Panamax tankers.
The outer dimensions are maximized to fit
the Panama canal.
However, these Panamax tankers differ in many
respects from the standard tanker.
At short notice, it is ready to carry clean as
well as dirty products. It offers superior safeguards
against contamination of clean cargo.
And it is noticeably faster.
