Hypothesis

Helmets are proven to be one of the most effective safety measures for bikers as they minimize injury and avoid fatalities from motorcycle accidents. However, many motorcyclists in Bangladesh do not regularly wear helmets, with a study finding that 88% of fatal motorcycle accident victims were not wearing one. Reasons for not wearing a helmet include discomfort and short trip distances. While helmet use has increased in Dhaka, rates vary in other cities, and surprisingly accidents are more severe in Dhaka for those wearing a helmet compared to those not wearing one.

One of the proven most effective safety measures for bikers is the use of a helmet.

Helmet is considered to be beneficial for minimizing the intensity of accidents and avoiding most
of the fatalities of motorcyclists while riding, which is the reason behind the formation of
legislation that exists in all countries across the globe (Zhang, G.; Yau, K.K.; Chen, G,2013). The
information of the BUET-research says, as much as 88 per cent of the people who died in
motorcycle accidents were not wearing helmets at the time of the accidents. But practically, the
scenario related to helmet wearing is complex. Without a rule, habitual helmet use is scarce. The
information of the BUET-research says, as much as 88 per cent of the people who died in
motorcycle accidents were not wearing helmets at the time of the accidents. Besides, 66 percent
of the motorcyclists do not use helmets on a regular basis. (Saddam Hossain, 2022).The reasons
behind not wearing helmets are- feeling hot inside helmets, uncomfortable using helmet, short
distance trip and not having any helmet.
Apparently, helmet clients have risen in recent times particularly in Dhaka city due to several
initiatives. Rates of helmet wearing varies in terms of different cities and highways or regional
roads. Dhaka city represents the highest percentage of helmet-wearing rate in Bangladesh (M. F.
Hasan, S. M. S. Mahmud, M. A. Raihan, A. Akter and A. Bhattacharjee, 2022). But surprisingly,
the helmet-worn accident severity is higher than non-worn in Dhaka city. This is usually
infrequent because normally higher number of fatal accidents happens by non-wearing helmets.
