ChromeOS, is a Linux-based operating system designed by Google. It is derived from the open-
source Chromium OS and uses the Google Chrome web browser as its principal user interface.

Jeff Nelson has said “that The true origin of Chrome OS, even now, is unclear”. himself as a former Google engineer,
claimed that he created “a new operating system" that was "initially codenamed 'Google OS' and since 2009 has been
released to the public under the product name, Google Chrome OS, Chromebook, and Chromebox."

History of ChromeOS

ChromeOS was initially intended for secondary devices like netbooks, and not as
a user's primary PC. Google has requested that its hardware partners use solid-
state drives "for performance and reliability reasons" as well as the lower
capacity requirements inherent in an operating system that accesses
applications and most user data on remote servers.
