EXPERIMENT 6
INTRODUCTION TO PROTEUS SOFTWARE
Objective
Familiarize with Proteus Software
Understand Working environment of Proteus
Introduction:
Proteus is a Design Suite also known as Virtual System Modeling (VSM) offering the ability to
simulate micro-controller code and also circuits. The software suite containing schematic, simulation and
PCB designing.
Part 1: Schematic Design
This is the first windows you´ll see every day you open Proteus; this is the home screen.
Select icon to start schematic design.
You can select your component From the Library menu select Pick part from libraries or from
object selector window click on P:
Select the components from categories or type the part name in Keywords text box. The selected components
will appear in the devices list. Select the component and place it in the design sheet by left-click.
Place all the required components and route the wires i.e. make connections.
Either selection mode above the component mode or component mode allows to connect through wires. Left
click from one terminal to other to make connection. Double right click on the connected wire or the
component to remove connection or the component respectively
Double click on the component to edit the properties of the components and click on Ok
After connecting the circuit, click on the play button to run the simulation.
In this example simulation, the button is depressed during simulation by clicking on it to make LED glow
Part 2: PCB Layout
We can use the simulated circuit to design PCB layout. Click on the icon ARES . This will open
another tab/window within Proteus. All the components used in design circuit will appear here with the
connections.
Following is working environment of proteus software for PCB design. In component tab on the left
side, you will have all the components of project (in schematic design). Place these components and the
wiring will appear automatically. You can route it according to circuit by selection of appropriate layer from
the left bottom area.
Then from output tab on the top row, click on print and select the print to pdf option. Select which
layers you want to print and obtain output for printing.
