Academic calendar for doctoral studies
2023-2024 academic year¹
Area of application
This academic calendar applies to all current doctoral programmes coordinated by the
Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in the 2023-2024 academic year.
Academic year
The 2023-2024 academic year starts on 1 October 2023 and ends on 30 September 2024.
Holidays
The following are holidays (non-working days):
Saturdays and Sundays and the days set as holidays in the work calendar published
by the Government of Catalonia (general holidays), in accordance with Order
EMT/81/2022, of 21 April, which establishes the official calendar for non-working
days in Catalonia in 2023 (Official Gazette of the Catalan Government no. 8656, of 28
April 2022).
There are also local holidays in each of the towns where UPC schools are located, in
accordance with Order EMT/278/2022, of 20 December, which establishes local
holidays in Catalonia in 2023 (Official Gazette of the Catalan Government no. 8818, of
22 December 2022).
Periods of low occupancy, in accordance with Governing Council Decision
CS/2022/07/05, of 19 December 2022, which approves the 2023 UPC budget.
The general holidays in the 2023-2024 academic year are the following:

Non-teaching periods
The non-teaching periods in the 2023-2024 academic year are the following:
● Christmas: from 27 December 2023 to 5 January 2024
● Easter: from 25 to 28 March 2024
● Summer: from 1 to 31 August 2024
With regard to elections, non-teaching periods are holidays, in accordance with Article 32.3
of the UPC’s election regulations.
Theses can be defended in non-teaching periods, unless the University agrees to close its
buildings in any of these periods.
Applications for admission
Interested parties may apply for admission to a doctoral programme throughout the academic
year using the UPC Admissions online platform from 1 October 2023 to 30 September 2024.
The academic committee of each doctoral programme may establish a specific deadline for
submitting applications and publishing decisions.
The academic committee must assess and rule on applications in accordance with the work
calendar.
The academic committees may rule on admissions for applications submitted for the 2023-
2024 or 2024-2025 academic year, without distinction, depending on the number of places
on the programme.
Annual enrolment
Ordinary enrolment period: from 25 September to 20 October 2023
The first enrolment in the doctoral programme must be done in the academic year and in the
period specified in the decision on admission.
Unless otherwise stated, decisions on admissions issued after 5 April 2024 correspond to
admissions and enrolment in the 2024-2025 academic year, depending on the number of
places on the programme for this academic year.

Annual assessment
Deadline for annual assessment in the 2023-2024 academic year: 16 September 2024.
Deadline for submitting appeals to the academic committee on assessment results in the
2023-2024 academic year: 20 September 2024.
The academic committee of each doctoral programme is responsible for publishing the
specific assessment calendar and the procedure for submitting appeals on assessments.
Thesis deposit
Ordinary period for the doctoral thesis deposit: from 1 October to 30 September (usual
period) Considering the 2023-2024 calendar: from 2 October 2023 to 30 September 2024.
The Doctoral School Support Services Unit will not carry out thesis deposits on holidays and
non-working days (which include periods of low occupancy), on the non-teaching days
specified on this calendar, from 20 to 22 December 2023 or from 29 to 31 July 2024.
Theses deposited up to 30 September 2024 are considered to belong to the 2023-2024
academic year.
2023-2024 academic year inauguration ceremony
First fortnight of November 2023.
During the course of the ceremony, the 2023 Special Doctoral Awards (2020-2021 graduation
year) will be presented.
Doctoral School Open Day
For admission in the 2024-2025 academic year: First fortnight of May 2024.
2024 Special Doctoral Awards
Publication of the call and calendar: First fortnight of February 2024.
The 2024 Special Doctoral Awards (2021-2022 graduation year) will be presented at the 2024-
2025 academic year inauguration ceremony.
