Book Review
The Great Gatsby
by F. Scott Fitzgerald

(i). Name of the Book: The Great Gatsby

(ii). Name of the Writer/Editor: F. Scott Fitzgerald
(iii). Year of Publication: 1925
(iv). Name of Publisher: Charles Scribner's Sons
(v). ISBN Number: 9780743273565
(vi). Genre: Fiction
(vii). Type of Binding: Paperback

(viii). Brief sketch of Major Characters:

1. Jay Gatsby: The enigmatic millionaire with a mysterious
past.
2. Nick Carraway: The narrator and Gatsby's neighbour,
providing an outsider's perspective.
3. Daisy Buchanan: Nick's cousin and Gatsby's love
interest, representing the allure of wealth and privilege.
4. Tom Buchanan: Daisy's husband, a wealthy and arrogant
man.
5.Jordan Baker: Daisy’s friend and a professional golfer,
known for her dishonesty.
(ix). Character I liked the most: Jay Gatsby

(x). Why I liked that character:

I liked Jay Gatsby the most because of his ambition,
determination, and the depth of his love for Daisy. Despite
coming from a humble background, Gatsby creates a persona
of wealth and success to win Daisy's affection. His romantic
idealism and the lengths he goes to fulfil his dreams make him
a captivating and tragic character.

(xi). Character I hated the most: Tom Buchanan

(xii). Why I hated that character:

I disliked Tom Buchanan due to his arrogance, entitlement,
and disregard for others. He represents the corrupt and
morally bankrupt upper class, using his wealth and status to
manipulate and control those around him. His treatment of
Daisy and his mistreatment of others reflect his selfish and
callous nature.

(xiii). Brief description of Storyline:

"The Great Gatsby" is set in the 1920s and explores the
decadence and disillusionment of the Jazz Age. The story
follows Nick Carraway, who becomes involved in the lives of
his wealthy neighbours, including the mysterious Jay Gatsby.
Gatsby's pursuit of Daisy, his extravagant parties, and his
secrets unfold against the backdrop of the roaring twenties,
leading to a tragic climax that exposes the emptiness and
moral decay of the era.

(xiv). Did I like it or dislike it? Why?

I liked "The Great Gatsby" for its vivid portrayal of the Jazz
Age, its exploration of the American Dream, and its complex
characters. F. Scott Fitzgerald's elegant prose and atmospheric
descriptions create a captivating narrative. The novel delves
into themes of love, wealth, and the hollowness of
materialism, offering a critique of the superficiality and moral
decline of the time. Overall, I enjoyed the book for its
timeless relevance, rich symbolism, and thought-provoking
examination of the human condition.
