Checklist On Surgical Gloving

This document is a checklist for nursing students to be evaluated on properly donning sterile gloves. It contains 14 steps for closed gloving and 13 steps for open gloving. III. CLOSED GLOVING

With hands still inside the gown sleeves, opens

the inner wrapper of the sterile gloves.
With nondominant sleeves hand, places the
2 palm of the dominant hand glove against the
sleeve palm of the dominant hand.
Grasps the glove cuff with dominant hand. Turns
3 the cuff over the end of dominant hand and
gown's cuff.
While holding the glove and gown cuffs
4 securely, slowly extends the fingers into the
glove.

With the gloved dominant hand, places the palm

of the nondominant hand hand glove against the
sleeved palm of the non-dominant hand.
Grasps the glove cuff with nondominant hand.
Turns the cuff over the end of the nondominant

hand and gown's cuff. Slowly extends the fingers
into the glove.
Interlocks gloved fingers and secures inside the
7
front pocket of the gown.
IV. OPEN GLOVING
Applies powder on both hands, discard the
8
envelope into the waste basket/pail.
With the nondominant hand soap, grasps the
9 cuff of the dominant glove on the fold. Picks up
the glove and steps back from the table.
Inserts the dominant hand into the glove and
10 draws it on leaving the cuff turned well down
over the hand.
Slips the finger of the dominant hand under the
11 turned back cuff of the nondominant glove, picks
it up and steps back.
Insert the nondominant hand into the
12 nondominant glove and pulls it on; leaving the
cuff turned well down over the hand.
With the fingers of the dominant hand, pulls of
the cuff of the nondominant glove over the cuff
13
of the sleeves. Avoid touching the gloved fingers
to the bare wrist.
14 Repeats for the dominant cuff.
